I love Head-On, it makes me feel better when I get mad at any other Jaffe game I play I wish they made more games on PSP/Vita using this basis cause it could've been a very big hit continuing the series

I love Head On. I don't mind if it's an "easy" game, it's good bite sized fun 🙂

Head-on has so much potential... hey Pedro, this game would be awesome with an update.

Head-On is one of those rare times when we glimpse into an alternate universe, and see what TM3 would have looked like if it stayed with the original creators. Would things have turned out better if this was TM3? I don't know. There are a lot of good ideas here, and it's really nice seeing characters from the first two games return, but there are a lot of questionable design choices too. Maybe they could have ironed out a lot of the kinks by TM4. However, Head-On isn't totally a lost cause. A lot of gripes with the game could (theoretically) be solved with a fan patch. Heck, just changing some numbers around to make the cars feel different would do wonders by itself.

Head on is my favorite Twisted Metal. Maybe I'm weird but I don't get bored playing it.

I think the upgrades could have worked if it was more like Vigilante 8 2nd Offense where the upgrades were handled a lot better (in my opinion).

7:58: I'm very glad you brought this up since I'm one of those people. I think it's the main reason why the people who find Head-On bland do so (along with the braindead easy difficulty). 9:25: You can have 2 of the same vehicle in one match? I never knew that. 11:01: I will say that the speed feeling samey is due to having so much turbo from the turbo upgrade. If you drive around without turbo, you can feel the speed difference between vehicles. 14:37: I wouldn't say he's difficult, just insanely tedious. His pathing is so busted he can barely drive properly if you stand far away from him and spam homing missiles.

You can have 2 of the same characters in deathmatch mode Tower Tooth is difficult without power ups is what I meant, but YES he is super tedious. Like Piecemeal in Small Brawl

i found using cousin eddie over the classic minion was a mistake and takes away from the game for me

Not gonna lie floops ending was crazy

I felt like head on was an entry level game for the series.

I will say this technically Twisted Metal Head On was the first twisted metal game I played officially but I've heard of twisted metal beforehand (I tried to beg my dad for TM3 but yeah my dad was a huge Christian and basically said no cause of the cover art of the game) but my first exposure to TM technically was Head on since it was 1 of my first PSP games, and I played vigilante 8 and 2nd offense before that but yeah the soundtrack for head on is still a really good banger soundtrack to this day. But yeah I do know there's some flaws since I'm taking off the rose tinted glasses. Honestly I'm glad you mentioned the mini-games like they're nice for extra lives but man some of them were annoying when I was younger especially the one where u had to go through 3 laps and not get hit by the f1 cars going backwards (that one especially made me mad when I was younger) but I pretty much agree with this video without the nostalgia glasses on but only thing is I liked the powerups since like you said in your video, it was nice when to have especially you had to go to school or get ready etc.

I'll never hate Twistes Metal: Head-On, as the PSP version was my first ever TM game, and I played the crap out of that (not online sadly). Those were some great memories. That being said, its biggest weakness is its lack of difficulty. While the core gameplay is fantastic, It's just way to easy compared to other entries thanks to the upgrades and lackluster AI, and the PS2 version is worse since there is no damage falloff for the remote bomb and napalm. I also HATE the minigames, and if they were optional I wouldn't mind, but the fact you need to complete them to unlock vehicles and maps is just asinine. I also think this game was so close to having the perfect roster. Had Darkside and/or Minion appeared, it would have been perfect, the best roster in the whole series. I do like Cousin Eddy, but like Trapper, he feels like an underwhelming Minion replacement. I also LOVE Dark Tooth in this game, his design is badass and he was so fun to play. Tower Tooth is Tedious AF and the fact you can only play as him in one arena (which isn't even his boss arena) is lame. Overall I do like this game and love the fact it got me into Twisted Metal, but there are other entries I would rather play (Black and Small Brawl especially)

So this was the first TM I owned, and the second one I played. I enjoyed this game a lot as a kid, with all it's glitchyness and quirks. Then later on I got TM Black and grew to love it's gameplay and feel more. Head On is still an alright game, though trying to go back to it just didn't feel the same and I can see why people don't like it as much.

Small brawl is the best TM to date.

I never played or even seen this twisted metal. Being that I grew up heavy on TM2 Im going to download and play this game. It reminds me so much of 2 many of the same vehicles and levels

Twisted Metal head on it's pretty Mid as a Game but maybe in the future we would have mod for Twisted Metal Head on

Bro you didn’t even mention how great the physics are. Little to no physics issues. TM2, 3, and 4 can’t say that. You want a colorful world game with good physics? You play Head-On.

I didn't mention them because honestly they are pretty stiff and not that interesting. I also figured since I talked about the gameplay being quite good as a whole package that would assume there were no issues with the physics.

@@VicariousNickGaming That’s fair enough. TM games had a history of such poor physics (Other than Black) prior to this title that it always stands out in my mind as a talking point.

100% agree. PSP emulation is best (some audio issues with weapons, but nothing game breaking). Great video, you summarized your points well

When I was real young this the psp version of this game was the only tm game I grew up with. So naturally I'm a little biased but last year I played the other tm games for the first time. And I still enjoy playing this game out of the others today but I am aware of the flaws, the main ones being the difficulty on hard is tm2 and tmb's easy difficulty and the fact that compared to the others in the series all the vehicles feel the same. And while I may not agree with your other opinions on it being soulless, I still have a good time with it and I think this is a W review. 👍

The cousin Eddy fight takes place in it's own version of the LA map. That is what I was referring to. Maybe you are having a stroke :)

The Cousin Eddy fight takes place in a very small section of the map and they just added road blocks/broken road pieces to keep you running around in a circle. Essentially they just turned a GOOD map like LA into a mid/cruddy map like Moscow, Holland, Washington DC

I only have it on PS2.

For me, Head On was good on the PSP but not on the PS2.

Head on levels, bosses and storylines are a bit boring but the game play isn't bad. It just needs more creative levels and more creative bosses

It's both a snoozer and I just don't like it's art style. It just feels wonky.

I just don't get the collective twisted metal fan mentality that 2 is the best game when its gameplay is terrible and even if the story and flavor of it is good and fun gameplay is what you are interacting with 90% of the time
