Very surprised with the time in all honesty. I was expecting to have a low 34min run, but everything went decent enough although this game is a bit RNG based (without it, it would become stale much quicker than it already can be at times) although to be fair after seeing online Multiplayer for the PC Port, it's very potent in multiplayer.
Los Angeles:
Rough start, but I managed to kill everyone in a timely fashion. Biggest problem was leaving the Arena with no remote bombs.
Moscow:
I got lucky Shadow didn't take the Health up top, and the fact that it respawned or I would've been dead on arrival. Spectre should be banned from this map as an AI.
Paris:
Smooth run. I don't know what crack Sweet Tooth was smokin'. My normal strategy is to go into the Cathedral where the Mona Lisa portrait is, and camp, but that sometimes takes too damn long or Spectre or Outlaw kill you.
Amazonia:
Bad start with a wasted Remote Bomb, and I somehow missed an easy Soul Snatch on Axel. Everything else went pretty well including the Minion fight.
New York:
Could've been faster if I didn't play passively, but I'm lucky if I ever make it this far so I said fuck it, just be patient because something is bound to go completely wrong when you want to bullhorn this map. It's a luck draw with the AI and ricochet trick if you want a fast time.
Antarctica:
Like New York, the ricochet trick does save time if the AI cooperate, and not pussyfoot around or just randomly slam into each other on the main platform. Could've had better ammo management towards the end of this Arena, but overall I'm pretty satisfied.
Death Incarnate (I mean Holland):
I didn't die, and the AI didn't blow up the Windmill with the full health spawn within the first 30sec of the fight so I got lucky. I still don't understand why the developers put a full HP item in an easily destructible windmill, and for a map that's supposed to be a big ass free for all with chaos everywhere against 9 opponents they didn't leave enough ammunition. Again, fuck you Holland.
Hong Kong:
I can't make a remotely objective comment here since I normally never make it this far for a deathless run, but I'd say I did pretty good aside from fumbling the remote bomb in the sewer section and not making any shots. I was too burnt out to get nervous about dying here, and it paid off.
Dark Tooth:
Get him to the Sewer section after you pick up remote bombs, and napalm, and spam the shit out of him. How the final boss is one of the easiest AI in the game is beyond me. Granted when most of us first saw Dark Tooth, we ran the hell away which is counter intuitive.

This game is an ultimate CLASSIC
9:49 the reason Sweet Tooth died so fast was that he was sitting still inside the napalm flames, taking damage from the residual fire effect it leaves on the ground. Since he was also on fire, it was draining his health really quick. Most of the time, they won't just sit there and let themselves burn, but he was stuck due to poor pathing.

I wasn't going to settle for less, and any run I do now will be deathless, and must be the fastest time with that vehicle or I won't upload. It will cost me a lot of sanity for a dead game, but this is one of those games I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid even though it has its issues.

@@mr.bp-dcbg Can you do it with Hammerhead? It took me a whole week of playing for me to beat it with him on medium. I would be very impressed if you could beat it on hard with him. I would crap myself if you could do it on hard with a no death run.

@@chesspunk489 Only if I can get the "record" time with Hammerhead. He's my least used and least favorite. I have a deathless Shadow & Sweet Tooth run in the works so I'll let you know when both those are done.

@@chesspunk489 In Singleplayer Axel might actually be overall better than Shadow, but they're very close. Speaking of Shadow I just got the fastest time overall excluding runs with Minion. It's uploaded now.
good shot on Amazonia when you were flying around
As a kid I didn't know how to use freeze, shield, jump or mines. I played without them and the best result I had was reaching Holland as Axel. I remember thinking that beating this game with Spectre or Grimm is absolutely impossible. So here I am 20 years after watching a guy on KZread beating the game not even being close to death once relaxed af. Great job and thanks for the vids.

Getting a deathless run with Mr. Grimm with this kind of time was no easy task, but I figured if it could be done with him, then I could do it with most other vehicles. I also didn't understand the action commands as a kid. I figured if you played like the computer players you'd just fire them off at random.

I think I knew the special combos but getting them to consistently work was another story....

@@ryanjacobson2508 You essentially have to let the D-Pad reset to make them work more consistently. Many people's instinct seems to be to press the inputs immediately and quickly instead of anticipate when an attack/event is about to happen.
Good shit. Grimm is one of the harder cars to use glass canon but risk vs reward it all depends on the player.

Nice job! Mr Grimm is one of my proudest runs. I don’t speed run really but all my times are around the 40 min mark with each character on hard also deathless.

Holland almost make deathless runs impossible for me. It's an inherently broken map due to how the AI operate. I don't plan on attempting all vehicles for the sake of my sanity. Getting around the 40min mark is always a goal to strive towards for most vehicles so congratulations!

@@mr.bp-dcbg I actually found a route for Holland but it doesn’t always work 100%. First I drive around spamming homings then I get more homings in the red windmill. Then I should those and pick up all the weapons in the area. I only get the health in the corner across the red windmill and the one in the corn field, since those are the only 2 the enemies drive through. After I do that I get the full health before the green windmill blows up. Once I’m done that I pretty much just camp behind the green windmill.

It would be interesting to see how I play online against someone, but the discord is fairly inactive. Twisted Metal 2 has a PC port with online support, but it's rare to get a game going. Most active online games I've seen are from a Russian 2v2 Mod.

That would be Twister. She's overall better than Mr. Grimm, while being just as fragile or slightly more. Her special is finnicky at best though.

My favorite character in Twisted Metal. His special in this game was god tier if you knew how to use it right. Later on when I was older I discovered cheat codes and I found the unlimited weapons code and for shits and giggles I would just spam Grimms special and just shit on everyone lol. Good times! God I miss Twisted Metal!

You're right. It's very clunky at times, and the graphics, even for a PS1 title could've been more refined. The CPU/AI is probably the worst thing in this game, and I would use it as a prime example of artificial difficulty to not implement in gaming. While I've only played 1-4, I find this one to at least have the charm/personality, sound effects, and physics to stand out from the other PS1 releases. I've seen online multiplayer videos of the PC version and you can easily tell it has balance issues as well, plus questionable map design.

There is an online version. The PC Port of this game always had online, but in this day and age that requires some work around tech savy stuff I'm not familiar with. If you want to see online matches I'd highly recommend Satoshi on youtube (just type his name and TM2 online). Or look for Twisted Metal 2 2v2 matches on youtube (It's an online Russian MOD of the game, but it's multiplayer).
God damn I forgot how powerful mr. Grimms special is. Fucking deleted mr. Slam and grasshopper.
seems like the lighting targeting is glitched in the emulation. Otherwise you'd have probably saved a minute off this run.

Pretty sure lightning has always been a shitty pickup since you have to be within a certain range to deal any damage to an opponent. Can you specify the timestamp for me since I believe I only used it on Hong Kong, and that was to just get rid of it.

@@mr.bp-dcbg It was with Thumper on Moscow. He jumped off the ramp as you hit lightening and didn't connect which is should have.
I have been suspicious about your videos from day one ever since I heard a different soundtrack on some levels. I mean you not only beat it with everybody on hard mode, but you did it without dying and with world record breaking times for every character in a matter of 2 months. Something that should take years due to how brutal the ai is. I am not saying you are cheating, but I am having trouble buying this as a hardcore TM 2 veteran. From what I have noticed it looks like your attacks are doing way more damage than they normally would. Either you are the Twisted Metal 2 Jesus or you are cheating somehow with mods.

If he is Jesus I am the god. I have videos with every character on every TM on the hardest difficulty without dying, also in decent times. I can confirm this guy isn’t cheating because there are ways to do massive damage in this game.
