    The amount of super truckers that hop on these videos to comment about how awesome their Volvo is cause it’s shifts itself and twin sticks is to much work or “not true twin sticks” is hilarious 😂 beat it nerds, you’re cramping this man’s style.

    Back in 66 I was driving a 58 Cornbinder coffin nose log truck, with a 235 Cummins and 4X5. Saw a guy with a 13 speed. I thought Damn! Now that is slick, wish I had one. Now it looks like the cool guys want to have twin sticks back. How times change.

    It costs quite a bit to put a set of boxes in a truck. And they are getting harder to find. Many say that boxes can't handle the torque. This way I can pretend it has boxes.

    I drove a Five Four Two stick for many years in a Dump Truck, when I was down in a Hole or something I could grab double low and absolutely creep out of anything without spinning a wheel. The guy who actually owned to truck bought a newer international with a Automatic with a Four Speed direct Drive for low hole loads like pulling off loaded in soft ground. But he never understood the way to drive it he would only use the Five forward speeds then I showed him how, he couldn’t believe how much more power and fuel mileage I got driving that truck because it was always in inside the Power Band so it never lugged or over Ran the Motor always just being in that power band make a huge difference in the fuel mileage, There is less strain on the motor especially no lugging. When your RPM are too low those Rods Are just Stretching along with Rod Bearings just wearing out prematurely.

    I started riding with my dad when I was 2. Grew up in the jump seat of the Peterbilt. Always loved trucks. Studied mechanics in school, specialized in transmissions. Got burned out working in the shop and went back to driving. The first brand new truck I got was the glider kit. I really like a lot of things about new trucks but I also wanted to relive my favorite childhood memories on a daily basis. A couple years of design changes and help from a good team. Now kits are on the market. No compromises. Most authentic feeling twinstick kit available. Thanks for the very supportive comments.

I’ll appreciate it if you can let me know. I have seen the one from 4 State Truck but it seams that it has a lot of play from side to side & front to bay. I see the one you got is very tight witch I test like that . Thank you very much.

    Well, I guess that's an interesting "conversion." After 20,000+ miles tell me how much you're enjoying it... because the whole point of putting the air shift on a thumb control was to NOT be doing all that extra movement with sticks, just put everything under thumb/finger control. Makes it easier for the driver. And this isn't a real "twin-stick" -- you're just substituting the low/high range button for a stick. And if a 13-speed, the alternate leg of the H-pattern for the DD/OD change. In a REAL twin stick configuration, those would have been [typically] a 5-speed main box with a 4-speed Brownie box [auxiliary]. And there was no forgiveness with that configuration - you HAD to match your revs and find the right gear (and contrary to seemingly popular opinion, double-clutching IS your friend. If you don't believe it, ask the company mechanic. I was "taught" to shift without the clutch -- which I learned to do very well. In later years, I've learned that that was poor training. Yes, you can do it (often easily, and often well). But the clutch will absorb any "occasional mismatches" instead of the transmission and drivetrain taking the load. After learning to drive with the admonition of "never use the clutch", [which I learned to do quite successfully], I have eventually accepted that double-clutching for every shift is easier on all the equipment overall, EVEN though I can do it "floating the gears" with ease. After speaking to several truck mechanics about the issue, I've resolved to always use the clutch... even if I know I [really] don't have to.

  • @jaredcampbell4124

    @jaredcampbell4124

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your insights. You are correct it is not a "real" twin stick. I've been running it for about 300,000 miles and still love it. I've driven most of the transmissions commonly used from the 60s through current (9,10,13,15,18,4x4,5x5,6x4), I've rebuilt a few (15,13,6). If money were no object I would drive a 5x4 but because they are becoming obsolete it is cost prohibitive. This twinstick conversion kit was developed so that I could have the look and feel of a 5x4 in a late model truck at a reasonable price.
