Twin Row Strip Till Soybean Trial

We are doing a trial comparing 7" twin row soybeans planted into strips made with the Orthman 1tRIPr vs 15" row soybeans planted into disked ground using the 2680h high speed disk.

It'll be interesting to see how that turns out. Around her folks are finding that less is better usually. Some have talked of going to 30'' rows but we like 15 and playing with the rate, means we buy far less beans to plant than we used to.

Most guys around here are 15" or 20". Still the odd guy doing 30". Pretty wide range of seeding rates as well.

Double planting can be a mind bender sometimes, which way was I going, where was I, this isn't working right lol

Thought about trying twin strip till soybeans. Here the last 2 yrs doing strip till w a Gladiator and 2x2 dry on the planter yields went up vs no-till w/ a 750 and broadcast. If twins yield better ideally a shot of fertilizer in between the row could be the ticket.

Interesting. So you planted 30" on the strips? You would think you could bump the yield even more by twinning those rows. 30" beans struggle to compete with narrower rows around here.

The disked 15" was 81bu/ac and the strip till twin rows were 75.

@@farmerdan87 interesting! Thanks. I tried doubling back with my planter on a few strips over a few years. I didn't notice much yield difference between the 15s and 30s. I definitely did notice better weed control.

The weed control makes a lot of sense. It's hard to compare when every year is so different. The odd year white mould can be a problem here so those years we might be further ahead with 30's or twins on those years.

@@farmerdan87 why do you think the strips turned out less? Was there any fertilizer savings between the strips and conventional till? I’m considering doing a plot like this on my farm this year
