Twin Peaks’ Star Mädchen Amick Loves That Shelly Johnson Is Still a Waitress

Mädchen Amick is probably best known for playing waitress Shelly Johnson on the original run of “Twin Peaks,” which was over 25 years ago. Despite that gap, some things haven’t changed. Not only is her uniform the same as the one wore when the show first aired April 8, 1990, but the character is still a waitress.

She has a rare kind of beauty, and is so intelligent. It is thrilling to have the show back, and I hope many people will now watch the original to have the full Twin Peaks experience. There is nothing else like it.

I agree. Back then she was more ‘cute’. Now she is quite literally stunning.

Uhh you NEED to see the original to watch the return. Otherwise you will have no idea what's going on. Actually, no one really knows what's going on anyway, but you'll be even more clueless haha

well you need a basic gist but i dont think it's THAT imperative that one watches season 1 and 2.

Yeah, it definitely helps if you’re already familiar with the lore of the original series, and especially with the film ‘Fire Walk With Me’ (which The Return draws more from than seasons 1 and 2)... but I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary in order to enjoy The Return. Much of The Return is very abstract, in a quintessential David Lynch kind of way. As you said, even those of us who watched the original series don’t really know for sure what the hell is happening. It’s been over a year and a half now since The Return aired and I still don’t really have anything nailed down. All I know, after repeat viewings, is that it’s a fun ride.

I was too young to be watching Twin Peaks when the pilot and Seasons 1 and 2 originally aired in 1990-1991 but as an adult,I recently watched all of Season 1 (just this month, actually)on DVD and then I'm going to go watch the movie ''Fire Walk With Me'' and then Season 3 on DVD. I knew that I just couldn't just go jump into Season 3 without having watched the first two Seasons and the movie first.

So true what she said about watching it all at once if it was released like that. 😂😂😂 Trust me, watching the original for the first time 2 months ago, I can vouch for that, as I'm sure most of you Twin Peaks fanatics can.

Wealth and success may have little to do with money or status. If her character (or anyone) is happy in their setting, being a doctor, janitor, fireman...waitress, then why change that?

Though I agree Madchen has aged better than the rest, I’d hardly go so far to say that James Marshall looks ‘like cancer’, or that Dana Ashbrook ‘looks like death’. It’s 25 years later... literally a quarter of a century. Both of those guys are in their 50’s now. People age. You will too if you don’t die young. Get over it.

Madchen and Peggy Lipton(Rest In Peace)both still looked great. Dana Ashbrook also still looks pretty good(he could've dyed his hair for the role of Bobby buy maybe he saw no reason to do so). Some of the other actors if I'm being perfectly honest, haven't aged well at all and just so it doesn't sound like I'm being mean, even Sherilynn Fenn herself admitted in an interview that her looks and her figure from when she was younger are basically gone. Aging sucks and that's one of the reasons why I'm so glad that I don't have a career in Hollywood as an actor. The pressure put on actors as they age is not something I would ever want to have to deal with.
