Several years ago while on a training course in Heidelberg, I had an opportunity to visit the museum in Spier and I cannot describe this is truly a phenomenal place to visit. Sadly I am getting on in age and will only have fond memories and photos to remind myself I was there! Thank you for the clips of some of the vintage piston pounders taking off👍

Nothing has more beautiful music than the sounds of piston engines on a vintage aircraft. The B-25 starting at about 1:10 brings tears to my eyes with those growling engines. I could listen to that all day.

I live rather close to Salzburg, Austria, home of the Red Bull Hangar. A while ago, I was on a little hike, thinking of nothing in particular, when I heard a plane. My jaw dropped when I looked up and saw A Mustang, A Corsair, a Lightning (must have been the one at 1:36) and some jet I didn't recognize fly in formation right over me.

My first ever flight was at the age of 5, in a Rapide, back in 1954. Can't remember too much about it unfortunately apart from the miracle of seeing what things looked like from a couple of thousand feet. However, in more recent years, I've been privileged to have had three flights in a Dove and what a serene aircraft it is. It's so gentle in it's behaviour.

  • @705547

The Catalina in this video is based in the UK, but it´s a Canadien built plane. The take off was filmed in Gelnhausen, Germany, where she was a guest at the Flugplatzkerb-Airshow.

If G-PBY is a Canso, then the correct US Navy Designation would be PBV-1, not PBY-5A.

  • @705547

I got the information from the website of the operator of this aircraft: "G-PBYA was originally ordered for the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Canso A amphibian, basically equivalent to the US Navy PBY-5A."
