Excellent presentation! Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together. It's especially interesting to see the tornado tracks superimposed on an actual Twin Cities map. The diagram of damage was also very informative. I was ten years old on the night of the outbreak and living in south Minneapolis, so we didn't see any tornadoes. (Reports of "tornadoes" in that area were probably wall clouds.) But I remember mammatus clouds to our south. I was a weather geek even then (with my "Little Golden Book of Weather") and told my mother proudly, "Those will be tornado clouds." I was pooh-poohed, of course. Not ten minutes later, the civil defense siren on Hale Elementary sounded. Talk about vindication! We turned on 'CCO, of course (hearing their klaxon still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.) What I remember most clearly was that the lightning was so continuous I could've read a book by it. During the worst of the storm, the lightning simply didn't stop for more than a few seconds. We lost power early on (two power lines blew together on 60th Street). So my dad took our AM transistor radio with him and sat on the back steps, thinking he might get better reception (!!!) amidst all the crashes of static. But even he eventually acquiesced to going "down the basement."

Have you ever listened to the WCCO radio coverage from that night that is now available online. It is VERY interesting as well as scary to hear today

I downloaded the WCCO radio coverage and listen to them usually once a year....I wasn't born in 1967 but as a storm spotter/weather nut, those radio broadcasts were great and glad they were made available!

@@paulsonj72 I think I have them memorized. Tom Gavaras, who maintains Radiotapes, was a child at the time and his family lived off Highway 101. One tornado passed over his house but did no damage.

My Father was at GM motor training school in Golden Valley when the Tornado hit Golden Valley and headed over the Mississippi river hitting Fridley. Spring Lake Park. 2nd hit an hour later in Fridley. And Mounds View. And live close to Fridley. 51 years later. I drive by where the path of the Tornadoes that hit Fridley. Spring Lake Park and Mounds View. And talk with others that lived through it. And it rained hard. hailed. And a bright green sky. And looked very freighting. 90s for the high. humid. around 4pm. The bright blue skies turned stormy. 5pm tornado warnings where issued in Glenco . Lake Minnetonka. Mound. 7pm . hot Fridley. Spring Lake Park and Mounds View. look like a bomb went off. A friend of mine escaped the 2nd tornado at 8pm. looked like a black Curtin was coming at him. was the worst tornado outbreak over to hit the twin cities
