Great video! Thanks for the Drone footage too. I had to look up the “Death Cave.” 18:00 For anyone interested read on: Two Guns was the site of a mass murder of Apaches by their Navajo enemies in 1878. A group of Apaches had hid in a cave at Two Guns to avoid detection, but were discovered by the Navajos, who lit sagebrush fires at the cave's exit and shot any Apaches trying to escape. The fire asphyxiated 42 Apaches, after which they were stripped of their valuables. The murder site is referred to as the "death cave". During the winter of 1879-80, Billy the Kid and his outlaw gang hid in the ruins of a stone house and corral on the west rim of Canyon Diablo, across from Two Guns.

The reason there were so many old foundations at your second stop is because it was an old tourist trap stop on route 66 called the Apache Death Caves. That is where you saw the people walking, down into the caves @ 18:08. When you did the drone shot looking south of your van there you can make out a swimming pool. The pool was from the old KOA. Couple years ago the A frame office was still standing. Now burnt down. Too bad.

Good Mornin' Russ, Good lesson in Route 66 history. I see the new gas station/truck stop at Two Arrows looks ready to open. And for you RVerTV viewers The Casino has a great place for RV's to stay overnight. We stopped and stayed last year, had a great burger in the sports bar. The hotel part is very nice too. I Googled Two Guns, a lot of stuff went down there back in the day! There is another ghost town a couple of miles north on the dirt road called Canyon Diablo. That was a wild place in its day too. "To cool for school"! OK, head east young man! See You Soon!

I think there was a KOA Kampground behind that gas station at 2Guns, Russ. It burned down but that rock 'foundation' you remarked on was the entrance marker, I think. Those 'stone structures' seen from the drone footage are the remains of an old 1930's 'mountain lion roadside exhibit' that featured the animals plus other desert species in enclosures. So many KZreadrs have done the Route 66 thing I feel like I've travelled the entire length without leaving my chair as well as being a scholar! LOL!!

I remember stopping in there at Twin Arrows when I was a teenager they had a nice little restaurant and decent sized gift shop really good food I remember that and as I got older I am started driving truck over the road and I remember stopping there in the early 90s 92-93 somewhere in there and parking out in the gravel parking lot and taking my rest break and eating in the restaurant that was not too long before they shut the doors I hated to see that place close

Slow down and move over. Way to keep them safe. As you follow the interstates, you'll see many, many examples of death by progress. Makes you wonder where the people ended up. Those stones look like an entrance to something. Must have been quite the spot back in the day. Thanks for showing us around.

"I wish there was a way to see this [Twin Arrows] during it's heyday..." You can Russ! Google it. I think there were even diesel pumps in the lot where the 'arrows' are for truck traffic on then major Route 66. Fun Fact: The 'arrows' were WORSE shape than they are now. They were 'refurbished' along with the facades of the buildings for the 1994 movie 'Forrest Gump' and are shown in the Tom Hanks character's 'running' scenes. Too bad, those arrows are now almost as bad as they were prior to the movie!!

To view old pictures of when it was operational, there is a Facebook Page called Twin Arrows Trading Post Landmark & Historical Place with pictures dated from June 15, 2015. Also stories from the family. The change from Rt 66 to the new I-40 had a negative impact on the trading post stop. I remember travelling in the 80's using a book listing all the old trading posts and visited many of them. It use to be a building crumbled back to the earth with the wind and weeds but now it becomes a canvas for the new age. Too bad someone didn't paint the history of the Native Americans on the walls!

They built a casino, over at Two Arrows which will attract more tourists and it's right off I40. Sounds like they are moving forward with the times. Last time we stopped at Two Arrows Trading Post it was a sad little tourist trap. I'm sure the casino will bring in more jobs and money.
