That's a very good comment. Starting our lives believing in Santa Claus as kids, going on to becoming Santa Claus for our own kids (by leaving the presents under the Christmas tree and in their stockings). That just goes to show that there is a Santa Claus, it's a small part of all of us! Merry Christmas. 🎅🎄🎁

There's something magical about when Rod Serling gives a message to the children of the 20th century and wishes us a Merry Christmas. Perhaps one of the greatest gifts he left for his fans!

This was my brothers favorite Christmas episode. He loved it so growing up. Watched it every Christmas Eve. He passed away this December. Four days before Christmas. He was only 40. I miss him terribly.

Proof that Rob Serling had such amazing talent for writing. He can make a sweet Christmas special that is heartwarming and there’s no need for any other twist ending. He’s great for science fiction and horror, what he’ll always be remembered for, but he can still tug on our heartstrings too

I agree with many of the comments here. Maybe another explanation is that anybody at any time, can be a Santa to others, if they open their heart, and give without regard for themselves. Anyways, that's what the spirit of Christmas means to me. The ending always fills my heart. The moment when he realizes he has found his true place in this existence.

Just saw this one again today (a bit late for the 2020 Christmas season). If Mr. Carney didn't get an Emmy for this, he should have. Wow!

I’m moved to my core every time I watch this episode. First time I was bawling. Such sincerity and warmth is rarely seen.

This episode of The Twilight Zone puts a positive spin on that old parable, "it is better to give than to receive". 🎄

Absolutely amazing episode, but the best scene of it was the heartfelt speech Art Carney gives to his boss in the department store. One of my all-time favorite moments on TV.

I watch this episode every year at this time. Love Rods closing narration set to "The First Noel".

I have to honestly say, at 62 & having been a TZ devoted fan all of my young adult life until now; This is the most 😢heartwarming Christmas show I have ever seen. I love the way Art portrayed Santa, especially in the scene where he tells Mr. Dundee, the store manager on how people should love & have compassion for their fellowman. These are virtues our world is lacking today. I want to also say how I am moved in the last scene where just before Art leaves to the North Pole ; he bids old Burt with Merry Christmas & God Bless. We need more beloved Christmas shows like this, where God is in Christmas 😊

This was one of six episodes they shot on videotape in an attempt to cut production costs.[ Those studio idiots.] Still, it has a great performance by Art Carney in a sweet and mystical teleplay by Serling. The idea of Santa being the reclamation of a lost soul is heartwarming. Two actors ubiquitous in the sixties, John Feidler and Burt Mustin, are excellent. A perennial favorite of mine.

The videotaped episodes looked like a combination of "PLAYHOUSE 90" and a daytime soap opera. Most of them were good; "The Night of the Meek" was *GREAT.* Rod, however, decided to resume the production of filmed episodes in early 1961, assuring CBS he'd watch his budgets for the rest of the series.

I remembered watching this when I was six years old so well. As a child there are so many things over our heads. We don't know what a director does. We are not aware of lighting or sound, art direction, why costumes are the way they are. Why a conductor sets the pace and volume of music, writing, editing, make-up, how something like this gets a go ahead with what budget. Who's idea is it to bring something like this as a finished product on television for a family to watch together. This "you tube" clip made my Christmas Jesse. Thirty minutes long. That's how long it took to make me cry again at seventy years old. This presentation should be shown to all television and motion picture science and arts students so someday we get this level of craft again. This is beyond an emmy-worthy production. It is the benchmark that all art should judged against. The best of the best of the best of the best. Such a kind thing you have done Jesse by letting us see this again.

THIS EPISODE IS AN ABSOLUTE TEAR JERKER... JUST ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL 🙏💖🌈

An all-time classic episode.

I will be tuning in to THIS episode every Christmas from now on

the half hour Twilight Zone episodes may have been the best written screenplays ever. they are certainly near the top of any list. This was one of the greatest of all. Art Carney was marvelous, as usual. John Fielder, Burt Mustin and the rest were perfect. TZ seemed to always cast the right actor for each role. This episode is shown at my house every Christmas and my kids won't get their inheritance unless they promise to show it to their grandchildren.

John Fiedler at the end from the Odd Couple and 12 Angry men but most notably he was the voice of Piglet for about 4 decades. Also in Disney's Robin Hood.

Two great character actors Burt Mustin and John Fiedler.

My favorite episode, such a beautiful meaning to it.

My favorite bit lasts only one second. The moment our hero sits down in the sleigh, and picks up the reigns! He goes from doubting what he sees to becoming St. Nick! Beauty.

My all time favorite. Should be shown every Christmas along with Its a wonderful life. Art Carney and Burt Mustin, two great actors. Real warmth you just don’t see much these days.

The Spirit of Christmas can never be diminished as long as the meek live and believe..

The entire episode is available on Amazon Prime........... I watch it at Christmas, and it is so uplifting.

One of the very few with a happy ending, such a heartwarming wholesome tale to bring some humble joy. Even if you don't like spooky stories or uncomfortable endings, at least watch this episode.

In this 25 minute episode, Serling (who was Jewish) sums up the true meaning of Christmas better than any full-length Christmas movie ever produced.

True. Interesting to note that Irving Berlin, who was also Jewish, wrote "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas."

Hands down the best Twilight zone ever! In my opinion that is! Merry Christmas to all!

I've never really seen this show but from what I gather, it involves people getting caught up in nightmarish situations. The endings were always, at best, bitter sweet. It was a pleasant surprise to learn about this episode. It's kind of like the Santa Clause but without Santa falling off that roof. In a way this episode is kind of like that scene from A Christmas Carol, where Scrooge talks with his nephew Fred in his counting house. Scrooge is the regular Twilight Zone with his/it's negativity and Fred is this episode saying "God bless Christmas!" I like to think that when the elf said they'd been waiting for Santa, they mean waiting for Santa to become real, someone to take up his mantle.

All those people have been gone a long time now, except for Larrain Gillespie, who played the elf. It is wonderful they can live on film and show us there is still beauty and hope and faith in this so very weary world. Merry Christmas, everyone!

I have never seen this one before. Certainly the ending is heartwarming. This would probably be one of my favorites. Although, I have to agree that my favorite of all time is also Nothing in the Dark, and I am filled with joy to see it is someone else's as well.

Probably Twilight Zone's best, and that's saying something, as many of their episodes were prime. But this gave a message without being preachy...just good old-fashioned acting and a razor-sharp script.

This episode is truly heart warming. I can't help but tear up. One of my favorite episodes.

Tugs at the heart strings.

Carney did an excellent job of portraying a man bedevilled by PTSD. I remember many men of that age who were scarred by the war. They turned to alcohol to try and forget the things they had seen and done. Corwin believed that by being Santa Claus that he could, in some small way, exorcise his demons. It's been my guess for years that the event that sent him over the edge took place on Christmas Eve or Christmas itself, perhaps finding the body of a small child in the rubble of a home, with Christmas decorations and unopened presents strewn about. My hope is that Corwin, and all men like him, find the peace in death that was stolen from them by life.

I love the Twilight Zone episodes where the "twist" at the end is that people are basically decent, given the chance. "The Hunt" and "One for the Angels" are some other good ones in that vein.

One of the things I love about this episode is that for once, there's no cruel twist ending. There's no downside to the bag's gifts, nobody steals the bag at the last minute, and Henry doesn't get cursed by the bag at all. After a night of making people happy, the only "twist" is that now, he gets to become the real Santa Claus instead of just being an actor.

4:21- "And a MERRY CHRISTMAS....to each and all." This was muted when this episode was repeated in August 1962.

Now THIS is a Twilight Zone twist I REALLY like! And I think it's the only one with a Happy Ending. This is why I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!! 😍🎄🎇🎄🎇😍😍😍😍

Earl Hamner wrote a good one about a man and a dog entering into heaven. And Ed Wynn saved a little girl's life by sacrificing himself in another touching episode

I rember this episode when it was first broadcast. It was special! I was and am a big Rod Serling fan. Too bad there is no one carrying the torch for him.

It was the rare episodes like this... the ones that weren’t necessarily going for the “creepy” aspect that made the show a million times better.

I just love this episode...
