Most thorough video on tractors without a lot of showmanship and unnecessary talking keep up the good work
I did it! Or, should I say, we did it. With Rachel's help from this video, I re-converted my 850's 12 volt system. It had already been converted when I bought the tractor but it had been done wrong. So, I bought the kit that Rachel sells and re-did everything. I took my time, started and stopped the video at each separate place until it was complete. I even gained the use of my starter button which the previous owner had disconnected. Now my tractor is charging correctly as it should, and I've regained that one safety feature of starting the tractor in neutral, instead of accidentally starting while it was in gear. That happened a few times too many. Thanks Rachel, you're the best!
The conversion kit worked great, and the instructions manual was spot on. Could you do another video showing the proper way to add lights to your 12 volt kit?
Just getting started with antique tractors this is probably the best channel I’ve ever come across as far as details and explanations that everyone can understand you guys are absolutely great keep up the good work much appreciated

We just moved to Goodrich, MI, and have a small farm off Dutch Road. We stopped by the Steiner store in Lennon, Mi, and boy were we disappointed in the rudeness of its sales staff. My husband took a picture of me sitting in the store and the sales clerk said there's no taking photos inside the store! He further went on to say they signed legal documentation to prevent photos from being taken. We were berated and made to feel shame... (We won't be going back there again, and they should have a sign that says no cameras allowed!). Shame on Steiner ....
10 seconds in and clicked like. She always has great instructional videos and now a 12V conversion for my Jubilee!
Am I the only one who is thinking that we need more young ladies like this one in this country? Nice video youngster. I am sure your daddy is proud.
The work of the electrical circuit is very excellent, your explanation Rachel, you are a teacher in mechanics and tractor electricity, thank you and the teacher’s father.. Greetings👍

My Ford 4000 was converted to a 12 volt system when I bought it a year ago but I watched this entire video. Super helpful!
I just bought your 12 volt conversion kit complete set with everything. Love all your video's GREAT JOB !
Your Dad must be very proud of ya! Very comprehensive video, and the only parameter I was confused by was that there was no ring on your finger!!! Must be for busting finger purposes. Have a blessed day.
Always great information! Very helpful!!
Very informative, Rachel. Thanks!
Excellent video Rachel. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.
Thanks. You are great. Bought a jubilee today and I needed this!
I bought your 12v conversion and it was very simple and easy to follow along with. My tractor starts like a top now, thanks so much! I highly recommend if anyone is on the fence!
Love your show
All your videos help
Thanks Rachel! This is so helpful! I’m upgrading my 601 to 12V.
Great video you are excellent on details ❤
Who controls the volume of KZread videos. Right at the very end of this video where you say "...we'll see ya next time" the volume about triples. I never had that happen on any of your other videos. If it's late at night or early in the AM and others are sleeping I don't need that to happen. Thanks for another great video. You have a very professional way of presenting a subject and recording it.
I love watching her and her Dad videos
Very clear instructions. Thank you!!
I had a bit of a start when I first saw the title. My mind read V12 conversion. Woooo!
Getting ready to replace my starter switch, thanks to your how to vidieo !
Very informative, professional and beautiful too....🙋 Thank you
I really appreciate your vidieo on 6 to 12 vlt conversion , I just finished my conversion, I couldn't have done without your help!
Got to check with You’ll on parts this spring
Another great video. Once I finish getting my current projects going I will order the conversion kit and parts. Like Andrew I also have a "new" 860 which is getting some updates.
A great video Thank y’all very much 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for the nice video!
Hi Rachel, My 860 came with a "partial 12v conversion" using an 12v alternator, 12 volt battery, resistor and a 6 volt coil. I think I can figure out how to make a complete 12v system using this video as a guide. One aspect you didn't mention was the running lights. I hope to retrofit LEDs onto my tractor to turn night into day. If I my suggest, you might consider creating a e-manual of your 12 conversion book, downloadable for a reduced price since it will most likely be used only one time by the buyer. Also, I recently rebuilt the 860's carb using your carb kit and I also did a tune-up with plugs, points and condenser, spark plug wiring harness and cap and rotor. Prior to that it did not run. There is still hope for the old 860. Next task will be to replace the gas tank and then on to a top overhaul. Cheers!
I got my Ford 641 about 6 months ago so I am still learning. I went to Everything Attachment to learn how to use what I have. I found your site on a search for maintenance for the Ford 641. I have watched about 4 videos now and decided the best thing I could do is subscribe. So I did. :o) the F641 already had been converted to 12 VDC when I got it but the wiring job was patched here and there. I have replaced wires one by one in an attempt to clean things up. I am only having one problem and that is vapor locking. I got it fixed temporarily. My question is this: Am I and idiot for using rubber fuel line? should I install steel tubing instead of using rubber? It's Okay if I am an idiot, at least then I know what I should do. :o) :o) thx so much for helping me with my F641 Maintenance.
Fabulous...
I just bought my first tractor (Ford 860) and these videos have been extremely helpful. Production quality is really well done. Rachel does an amazing job. So much so that I just placed an order for your 12v conversion kits!

These are great! Keep up the good work. Question, any chance of doing an 8n ball joint, boot replacement??
I bought this conversion kit for our 1960 Ford 861 powermaster. It was really easy ....just took some time. I watched this video and followed it. Tractor starts right up now!!! 👍

Hi rachael, let me first say that your videos are some of the most well put together ! I'm really getting frustrated searching for a conversion kit for my my 1953 Jubilee. it is still 6 volt pos ground.. i'm sick and tired of having to mess with the ign every time i try to start it , after sitting for months at a time. so here's the problem : i want to purchase an all in one kit that will convert to 12 volt neg grd. with electronic ign. with a new belt and 12 volt coil everything i need --- all in one box ! some alternator kits -- i don't like the 3 pc mount -- some don't come with the new belt and hardly any come with the coil. If I have to select everything individually , I'll surely get something wrong! I completely stripped and rebuilt this machine to original years ago ---- but the ignition has always been a weak point. it was great when i could keep it indoors . any thoughts? I've asked on utube for any recomendations for the best kits to purchase -- no help. they all look the same -- except some guys/companies charge way more for the same product. thanks for any help, Marc
one year ago I got stuck by lighting when working on my 310 case tractor crawler (still waiting on bearings to finish lol) my wife hate that dozer siad it almost killed me with the lighting strike. It really put me down for about a year could not do much and had a long year. Well this year i got the all clear to go back to operating heavy equipment. I have hit the hay fields hard and now i am looking to start a winter project that can rake and tedder for me next year looking around and will see what we find what do you think i really would like a moline but i cant find them in maine so i was thinking an oliver 66 77 or 88 john deere a b or 60 70 or a farmall h or m. i would like to thank you all for what you do when i was down you gave me hope i would get back to working on tractors and starting farming again you brought hope and direction thanks for what you do

Sir I’m happy you’re alive and kicking Keep trying and enjoy what you love
If it was a 4 post solenoid, where does the fourth wire go?
Can you add a video for wiring up the headlights and the rear work light with switch?
A comment and a question. The question - On a 1962 Ford 871, the muffler is hitting the new 12v conversion alternator pulley nut. Unlike the video where the muffler goes UP, ours comes forward and the down between the fan cage and the alternator pulley. *** Any suggestions welcome! *** The comment - Rachel makes it look easy. I think it took me several hours to get past the first 30 seconds "take your hood off and it helps to remove the air cleaner!
I changed my 1954 AC a couple of years ago. The reason was for starting and making it 12 volts so it could be used for jumping to another vehicle and to get jumped.
You and your Dad do great videos. Do you have a video explaining how to convert a 1961 year 861 to 12V using a delco alt. that has three terminals. The batt terminal and spade terminals 1 & 2. Tha solenoid has three terminals.
I have a 971 row crop gas 172 would u please make a video on the distributor and what it looks like on the tractor and the firing order and where the oiler should be facing when its in time and running please
I am looking into doing the conversion with the premium kit. But I am also wanting to convert the distributor to electronic ignition and both sets say for points only.
I recently bought an 850 and it had already been converted to 12 volts by the previous owner. As I was working on the carburetor and manifold (rusted out manifold) I was resting my hand on the alternator and it was warm. The engine hadn't been running or anything so I thought this was odd. I took the main wire off the alternator (it's not a one wire version like you have in the video) and the heat went away. Prior to this happening if I left the tractor sit for a while the battery would be dead. I'd charge the battery back up, run the tractor for a while, and shut it off. After a day of sitting the battery would be dead again. Once I took the wire off the alternator the battery has stayed charged. I'm sure it's not getting re-charged by the alternator, but at least it starts the engine. The long and short of it is that whoever did the 12 volt conversion obviously did something wrong. Having watched this video I feel pretty confident that I can troubleshoot the problem and get it fixed. Also, the alternator makes a horrible squealing noise when the engine is running so it needs to be replaced anyway. I'm going to get a single-wire version rather than something somebody pulled off a car they had sitting around.
Thoughts on converting to electronic ignition while changing to 12 volt?
Can you do a video on working with the governor on a Jubilee!?
Nice job ..can u do a video on how to drive the Ford 600 tractor
Could you use this conversion kit with other tractors? Maybe a WC Allis or an MH 101 Super?
Nice
I talked to you over a year ago and hope you still have or know someone that has the radiator housing for a Farmall Cub.
Hai Rachel, i am frm Indonesia. I like what you have to say
nice !!
One comment. I don't see any fuses or fusible links anywhere? Safety First. I did this on my 8N decades ago. Man, what a difference, especially in winter.
Looking at full conversion kit for 55 NAA bit would like to add proper (no points) ignition kit
I have an 8N. not sure what the small lever is just beside the boom lift.
Another cool video. Is Dad on holiday?
Just watched the 12 volt conversion video. Is it necessary to change out the 6 volt starter and the 6 volt head lights?
I have a 3post alternator on my 53 jubilee. I'm rewiring it as the old harness was a mess. How do I wire up the 3 prong alternator? Thanks, Matt
I bought a 1953 ford jubilee and there no 2 nd and 4 th gear took off the shifter plate and one of the metal piece was out and its bent. Do you have a video showing how to fix.
Just used this kit on a 841. Very easy install. Im showing 10 amps charging. Should this be higher?

If 6V can actuate the solenoid, then 12V can too. It's only used for a short time so I don't think using a 6V solenoid with 12v power is fine (as she said in the video more or less).
@ianrobinson9565
6 ай бұрын
@RK-gg3pr I noticed that as well and have already commented. After 50 years of working on this equipment I would purchase a 12V solenoid. The 12V is for the Primary ( solenoid coil), not the switched contacts. They will handle both 6V and 12V. CHEERS.
At 5.20 of your video you are actually fitting a 6 volt solenoid. It has 6V stamped on it.
On a positive ground, is the starter not grounded positive and a negative cable from solenoid? Then when changing polarity, would the starter not turn the opposite direction?

Great Video! But I believe You hooked the Amp Gauge leads Backwards. The alternator wire should go to the negative side of the amp gauge and, the solenoid & terminal block leads should go to the positive side of the amp gauge. Unless I'm missing something. Let me know. Thanks!

I j8ust converted my 59 Ford Powermaster over to electronic ignition. I rewied everything. I have power at the coil ,but no spark, thoughts please
In your example, you’re still set for positive ground, right? The solenoid has the grounded base, right?
@RK-gg3pr

NO! The converted 12V system will ground negative. Yes - I believe current flows from the starter button (positive) to the solendoid, through the base to ground.
Where can I buy a Simms Menimec high pressure injection pump for my’75 Ford 3000 3-cylinder diesel?
Sounds silly but I have an aluminum disc inside my gas tank (‘58 861). I don’t know if it belongs but it leaves a half inch of gas at the bottom of the tank and there was no screen on the shutoff valve when I took it out. What is the aluminum disc and is it standard? Lost!!
Hi,, I have tractor ford 2000 won't crack and 1 wire get really hot from bobina.
Do they still end up being positive ground with a conversion like this?
Very good how to will be contacting you in the future. How do I go about getting the converting kit 🤔
I made my own harness but a replacement would be high but nice
What size battery do you recommend ?
Just rewired my 8N following online diagrams. Replaced the starter switch. It starts and runs great. Only problem, when I turn off the key the engine keeps running. I have to turn off the gas to turn it off. What am I missing????
@JW...-oj5iw
Жыл бұрын
Some circuit is running continuous power into the coil. Check for the wire on the positive terminal of the coil. As a test starting point, take the nut off the terminal and retain the wire on the terminal with a tight bit of vacuum hose. Start the engine, turn the power switch off, and pull the vacuum hose off so you can lift the wire off. The engine should stop immediately. If it keeps running, that's heat ignition, not electric spark. Typically it's rattling by then. If your engine stops, you'll need to track that wire back and find the point that battery power is entering the circuit. It should be cut off by the switch.
When will the conversion kits be back in stock any idea?
I have a Ford 600 with 6v positive ground. Do I need to reverse the polarity of the voltage regulator as part of a conversion to a 12v negative ground? Thanks
@ianrobinson9565
6 ай бұрын
@davejennings779. If you are fitting an alternator it should have a built-in regulator. It should also be negative ground. You can remove the 6V regulator. If you are fitting a 12V generator you will need a 12V regulator. For a 12V generator you can have positive or negative earth but depending on whether the generator has an internally or an externally earthed field. You must match the correct regulator to the generator. Also you must polarise your generator and regulator. If I have totally confused you please reply back to me. I have been working on this older equipment for over 50 years. CHEERS
Does this kit work for Ford 900?
"... and it's winter..." I guess this episode was lensed a few months ago,
The adjustment bracket needs to be Made longer so you have room to tighten the belt in the future
. I just bought a 9n and the guy put a 12v conversion and a guess put a new resistor as well. And he got it fired up for a few minutes but like you said after that it wouldn't run anymore. Should i remove that external resistor and see if that fixes the issue?
@RK-gg3pr

If your coil has internal resistance as described in the video, then you should remove the resistor.

Hello, I'm a 64-year-old farmer who recently purchased a small farm in Goodrich, Mi, off Dutch Road. My wife and I stopped at the Steiner Tractor store for a look around and to purchase a front tractor emblem for my old 8n! I took 1 photo of my wife sitting in a chair and the counter clerk scolded me saying, no taking of pictures in the store. The counter clerk demeaned me in front of another customer, and my wife! I don't plan to return to Steiners or make further purchases from them! Steiner Tractor should post signs that read: (PLEASE, NO CAMERAS ALLOWED!) to prevent degrading community customers.
