Tweak your RF power meter: Here's how

My small VHF/UHF RF power meter was giving an inaccurate reading. Watch how I tweaked it to give more accurate results. And does it work on HF? I'll give it a test there as well.

    Having played around a little making RF power indicators and SWR bridges, I found it is not easy to get accurate readings across a wide frequency range with simple circuits like this. I usually treat readings on uncalibrated commercial indicators for ham use with a pinch of salt. Just as you did, calibrating with a reference you trust at one frequency is probably the best approach.

    I agree and have had the same experience. I have a Welz SP-10X portable watt/swr meter that is good for 1.8 to 150 MHz and it is no more accurate as this one. Good for spot checks and I used it to check used radios at hamfests for RF output. If the output power was in the ballpark I could assume the transmitter was operational.
