TVNZ God Defend New Zealand (with NEW high quality audio original!)

Музыка

The TVNZ God Defend New Zealand National Anthem we all grew up hearing at the start of each morning on Television New Zealand actually originated as the 'Expo '88' song for New Zealand held in Brisbane. The late Alan Slater was commissioned by the Department of Internal Affairs to arrange a new version of the anthem, featuring the tag team vocals of Annie Crummer, Peter Morgan with orchestration from the NZ Youth Jazz Orchestra. Deputy Prime Minster at the time, Geoffrey Palmer requested a further performance of this arrangement for the Parliamentary Reception to welcome home the 1987 Americas Cup Team.
The version we all know and love features the arrangement expertly & epically done by Alan Slater along with the lead vocals in English from Crummer, Morgan (interesting to me as I always thought it was Bunny Walters) and the Te Reo verses by Dalvanius Prime and the Patea Maori Club. This arrangement to me is THE BEST version of this anthem you could ever wish for.
All rights to the original holders of the sound recording copyright etc. This is just for everyone who loves that nostalgic trip back in time, to a different New Zealand, a united New Zealand. I miss those days.
Audio Recording:
Produced by Alan Slater
Engineered in the Recording Centre Wellington by Neil Maddever
Music Director: Matt Catingub
Vocals by Annie Crummer, Peter Morgan, Dalvanius Prime
Features on: N.Z Expo Song '88, Matt Catingub: In the Land of the Long White Could, Kiwiana Goes Pop Vol.2
Enjoy :)

E Ihowā Atua, O ngā iwi mātou rā Āta whakarangona; Me aroha noa Kia hua ko te pai; Kia tau tō atawhai; Manaakitia mai Aotearoa Men of every creed and race, Gather here before Thy face, Asking Thee to bless this place, God defend our free land. From dissension, envy, hate, And corruption guard our state, Make our country good and great, God defend New Zealand. Waiho tona takiwā Ko te ao mārama; Kia whiti tōna rā Taiāwhio noa. Ko te hae me te ngangau Meinga kia kore kau; Waiho i te rongo mau Aotearoa May our mountains ever be Freedom's ramparts on the sea, Make us faithful unto Thee, God defend our free land. Guide her in the nations' van, Preaching love and truth to man, Working out Thy glorious plan, God defend New Zealand. God of Nations at Thy feet, In the bonds of love we meet, Hear our voices, we entreat, God defend our free land. Guard Pacific's triple star From the shafts of strife and war, Make her praises heard afar, God defend New Zealand.

Any language must be spoken by all young people, or this one gonna die in a generation, unfortunately speaking. For example, Walloon language has a population over 600,000, but almost all young Wallonians can't ever speak and hear this local language well at all, as their grandparents have been all forced to speak Parisian (French) only at any official places.

My favorite version of the NZ national anthem. Annie Crummer's vocals are amazing. The arrangement and production values (including the videography) are top notch. Props to all involved -- this was awesome. If I was viewing late night TV, I'd always watch this finale before going to bed, and I still love it, great to find it again on KZread !!

This song is worthy of being played in the courtroom. This song represents Godzone. Our Chiefs belong to the first country that married the whole world. That's why it's called GODZONE. New Zealand is the first multicultural country in the world, the whole galaxies and the whole universe.

Such an epic version of our beautiful anthem, New Zealand was already an incredibly progressive country by this point but this really helped heal the country after the Sprinboks tour of the early 1980's.

The audio quality is great, it's just a pity the same can't be said about the video quality. The original TVNZ video had superb quality that I wanted to share with my relations in UK, but by the time I could afford the equipment, the opportunity was gone.

An announcer: "This is TVNZ One, welcoming you to our 45th (or 50th) anniversary celebrations. First this." Cue the newly produced (by us) version of this clip. And then our startup sequence.
