It's a shame you didn't go deeper into Australia's Naughtiest. The story goes that the owner of the network phoned the station CEO during the first half to demand he "get that s**t off the air". When they cut to a commercial break, there were no commercials, just an announcement that there was a "technical issue" and into a replacement programme.

Ew, "Who's Your Daddy" is such a gross concept because there's incentives for the fake dads to lie and emotionally manipulate the guesser. Sure, it's nice that the guessers still get to meet their real fathers, but it'd still be a psychologically painful experience having all these men desperately trying to pretend to be your father when it's already a pretty heavy situation to be in.

Yeah, I felt the same way. Though technically I wasn't put up for adoption as an infant, I still had a biological father out there I didn't know about until I was an adult. It's a very emotional time and can be awkward as well. To have that be used in a game show is horrible. I couldn't imagine myself trying to do that. Also how terrible a person do you have to be to trick a person into believing that you are their father, only to get money. And then there is the mental trauma of finding that out. That you are already starting to make a connection to, only to find out that, "No, you guessed wrong. This person is your father."

I've watched "Heil Honey, I'm Home" a couple of times and it's honestly not a bad show. Some of the jokes were pretty funny and the characters were fairly likable. It's not terrible, while not being exceptionally good. The show's problem is obvious: it's fucking Hitler. If this aired at like two in the morning on something like Adult Swim it would be great, because then it would ironic, but trying to make it a typical family sitcom is what makes it bad.

  • @memememe609

    @memememe609

The problem was the choice of audience. Mainstream doesn't get irony, they consume entertainment without thinking. So of course, seeing the Funny Moustached Man™ in a scenario that isn't him being insulted in some way broke them. The irony here is that this "demonization" of errors throughout our history has made it so that many people see Hitler as some sort of eldritch entity rather than a very mentally ill man in a Germany filled with conspiracy theories and a broken economy. These same people hating on Heil Honey are the same people who'd shit on a movie like Downfall for showing Hitler as a human who chose horribly wrong rather than a monster under the bed.

One slight clarification on Turn-On: ABC didn't cancel it mid-episode, but several local ABC affiliates did. The person who allegedly came on the air to say the rest of the show wouldn't be seen ever again was the president of one of those affiliates. Some of the west coast stations decided not to air it at all, so for some people it was cancelled *before* one episode.

As someone who is very close to the hypnotism scene in Australia I can tell you one of the reasons Peter Powers' show was pulled was due to people calling the network and complaining that they/ their partners/ their children were "hypnotised" over the air. Pretty stupid but it happens everytime whether it's on tv or radio. Plus Peter powers is a pretty cancerous human and brings a bad name to hypnotism using techniques that involve hitting and strong arming people in order to induce them. There's an English hypnotist that has similar vibes and is equally weird suggesting women make out with him on stage while under. FYI: Stage Hypnotism is not magic and people still have their free thought and if a suggestion does not line up with the morals of a person they still have the autonomy to refuse.

There's one show I can think of that I think was cancelled after its first episode. It was called Bobb'e Says and it appeared on Cartoon Network in 2009 when they were doing their poorly received live action phase. It was a show that hosts a kid named Bobb'e and in it he would comment on viral videos. I watched it when it first premiered. And that was the only time it was played on the channel and it was never mentioned again. Most of the CN Real shows had extremely low ratings and were all cancelled after their first season. The only ones that survived more than one season were Destroy Build Destroy and Hole in the Wall with those finally being cancelled around 2013.

I feel like, if someone stopped for just a second and thought the AFV After Dark idea through, they would have realized it made no sense. TV networks have a ton of regulations preventing things like nudity, drinking or drunkness, sex, crude humor etc., from airing in normal shows. How was a show embracing those things going to stay on the air? I just hope Bob got the giant neon sign of his face afterwards.

Man I LOVED the pilot for Korgoth the Barbarian! It's such a shame the show NEVER took off. Seeing that it was "Too expensive" makes so much sense. The show looked like they used traditional animation over more modern forms and I can appreciate it got made. If you guys love Fantasy, especially _DARK_ fantasy (IE, adult stuff) you'd get a kick out of it, it's here on KZread, I'm sure. I was really rooting for that show to take off. I think if they switched it up and used digital production for it, it'd do _really_ well with a lot of us 80s/90s fantasy nerds that played/still play D&D, since most of us are all grown now. Edit; THAT PETER POWERS DUDE CAME TO MY SCHOOL WHEN I WAS IN HIGHSCHOOL!! He convinced the most scrawny of the dudes that went up to be under his hypnosis that he was a 'body builder' and he 'had to show off as much of his body as possible.' The kid ALMOST got naked on stage. HE WAS A SOPHOMORE. And, he convinced one of my friends that he was the boyfriend of "the hottest girl in school." He was a Junior at the time. He believed it for a few days afterwards, too. She had to finally slap him to wake him up from it. It was pretty bad.

Corporate entities didn't so much get in the way back in the 40s and 50s as much as they completely sponsored most shows. Many of the biggest shows were called by the corporate sponsor's name first followed by the name of the show. So a show would be named something like Chevrolet's Star of Stars or the Quaker Oats Oatmeal presents Sid Caesar comedy hour. Neither of these shows are real I'm just making an amalgam but it's not correct to say that corporate sponsorship was destroying shows back then or overly influencing shows. They were the shows.

The reality show itself ran for a full season and was quite successful as all my co workers at the time gushed about it around the water cooler. However the Partridge Family show itself only had one episode officially made. All that work to create an ensemble cast for a reboot and they only bothered to make one episode on it.

It cost like $3.95 a minute to call in and the fine print stated you'd be charged whether the call went through or not. On the one episode I saw the question was a car with 4 letters in the name. Hear me out: Milligan may have, at least partially, had the right of it, vis-a-vis the reasoning behind the cancellation of The Melting Pot. The British entertainment establishment was far more comfortable with “blacking up” during even this late era than many who aren’t familiar with the programming of that time would (want to) believe. And with that in mind, Milligan would likely never have considered that the BBC would have a problem with a white man performing in brownface in the year 1976, because in the year 1976 that type of stuff was already all over the BBC. Most egregiously, in 1976, The Black and White Minstrel Show was still featuring white performers in blackface, performers who acted out racial stereotypes associated with it on a weekly basis and to very good ratings. Why then, would it be seen as a problem to have a white man play a guy from Pakistan if there was a whole white cast playing African Americans in a different time slot? I’m suggesting that within that context, there was no problem. Today, the show is almost universally seen as the disgrace that it always was, but The Black and White Minstrel Show was still going strong in the mid-‘70s and it began all the way back in the 1950s. People tried to get that show cancelled for decades and discourse from people with relevant influence over television programming often turned ugly, ex. the words “[Black people] should just shut up about it” were used on one occasion when the prospect of pulling the show from the air was raised. Mind you, this was said while the powers that be were acknowledging how deeply offensive and racist these depictions were, AND at the same time as they were admitting that this show was harmful/hurtful towards the people being mocked. That particular instance occurred in the early ‘60s, so by the mid-‘70s it was pretty clear where the network stood on blackface, ie. “pro.” That show wasn’t put out of its misery until 1978, so while the full and true reasons behind The Melting Pot’s cancellation may not be known, I don’t think that it was pulled out of any respect for the dignity of POC; there wasn’t any. Check out some of the programming from “The Beeb” from that era: it’s wild with the “ethnic humour.” Are You Being Served? has a few moments that would make your hair curl.

I was thinking of a specific episode that I think is called "Roots?", the name being a reference to the book/miniseries, I'm assuming; they were both in the zeitgeist at the time of the episode's airing. If I'm remembering correctly, the staff spends the episode trying to discover Young Mr. Grace's family origins (for his birthday, or something), and the episode ends with a straight-up minstrel show in order to indicate that he is descended from enslaved black people. The whole cast was in full minstrel costume, including blackface, singing and dancing to banjo and tambourine music. I'm guessing that episode doesn't get shown in syndication these days.

I think if the show got extremely negative reviews and ratings the network buries it. For example, there was a planned spin-off of the popular show “1000 Ways to Die” called “1000 Ways to Lie” which was about scams and deception. The pilot was a horrible and dull piece of trash, and the audience thought so to. Apparently it had several episodes already filmed but after the pilot was extremely poorly received Spike TV scrapped the remaining episodes and the pilot never aired again .

Sammy was a cartoon made by David Spade, and it was scheduled to air on NBC in 2000 as part of like a cartoon block NBC was trying to do. The show flopped, and it was cancelled after two of its episodes aired with little to no promotion for one week in August 2000. Some NBC affiliates apparently aired different episodes going out of order, and I believe some didn't even air it at all. For the longest time, the show was completely lost, with no footage of it surviving, until a crew member had the entire series on VHS which were then ripped and all uploaded to youtube last new years eve.

The Rich List is a great concept. I watched some episodes of the British version (Who Dares Wins) and I liked it. It's well over the bar of "the lowest knowledge you need to call something a quiz show", it has right amount of drama and has an unique, but quite easy gameplay - it's like Family Feud met Wikipedia list of lists.

This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

Another couple of shows canceled after only one(or less) episode(s) to add to the list: Global Frequency. Based on an American comic book limited series created and written by Warren Ellis and published by Wildstorm Productions, an imprint of DC Comics. The plan was to capitalize on the success of the recent DC Comics Arrow. Canceled before the pilot could be aired because the pilot was leaked online, which annoyed Warner Brothers to the extent that they killed the project. To this day though, the pilot is still downloaded via torrents and P2P. Virtuality. After seeing the scheduled airing time of Virtuality, Michael Taylor called it a "New Orleans funeral", having little hope in Fox picking up the series. Virtuality was filmed as a pilot but aired as a movie when Fox failed to pick up the series. On Friday June 26, 2009 Jessica Blank, wife of actor Erik Jensen who portrayed Dr. Jules Braun, posted a call to action on her husband's Facebook page urging people to watch the movie and write in support of more episodes.

Thumbs up for including Turn On, which I was able to watch in its entirety in the D.C. area as a young teenager. I thought it was great. It featured The Body Politic, a young pulchritudinous woman in a bikini, which I felt had great artistic value. The very first scene was a key turning in a panel (the turn on) and the very last scene was the same key turning off, which was quite ironic. The credits were spaced through the show, instead of just at the end or at the beginning. I remember a joke between two of the (computer administrators, I guess): "I dreamed I was a duck in Eldridge Cleaver's bathtub." "What did you do?" "I MIGRATED man."

The still confusing cancellation is "Emily's Reasons Why Not". The pilot ratings were good, and it really wasn't that bad. ABC dumped a ton of money into the show, they should have just let the series run through it's episodes, and it's not as if most shows on network TV were much better than this.

I know it wasn’t under the same name but are we not gonna count Primal as effectively being Adult Swim picking up Korgoth? Same creator, similar premise, similar art. 14:57 Just a clarification about Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos with Doug Mulray, it was only meant to be a one-off special, not a series. But the reason it was pulled mid-show (and replaced with reruns of the sitcom Cheers) was because Kerry Packer (the father of Mariah Carey's ex-fiancee Jamie Packer, and the then-owner and CEO of the Nine Network; which aired the special) watched the show and was so offended of it's content that he infamously called the studio operators and shouted "Get this shit off the air!!". In fact, they announced that it couldn't air the rest of the special due to "technical difficulties", and it was only announced the next day that it was pulled. The day after it's broadcast, Packer berated his staff for airing what he called "Disgusting and offensive shit", and later sacked Mulray and most of the people involved with the show, with Mulray also being "banned for life" from the network (although he did appear on the network a couple of times since 2002, three years before Packer passed away; although only one of his appearances was when Packer was still alive). Yet, despite Packer not liking the show, and while the network did recieve some calls from viewers complaining about the show, it was actually popular with the viewers, as when it was announced that the show was in fact pulled, they recieved thousands of calls from viewers, with a majority of the callers complaining about the show being pulled. Channel Nine actually rebroadcasted the special in 2008, with commentary from the recently departed TV legend Burt Newton, who when the re-broadcast got to the 'Technical Difficulties' part, referenced the incident by saying "The stated reason was 'technical difficulties' which was accurate... since it is TECHNICALLY very DIFFICULT to keep a show on air...with Mr. Packer on the phone YELLING at you!", before finally airing the rest of the special that didn't air during the original broadcast. The re-broadcast was censored however, as some of the monologues from Mulray were cut as they were deemed to be "no longer acceptable". In my opinion, Kerry Packer was a dick for personally axing the special while it was still airing, but it was HIS television network at the time, and up until he passed away in 2005, he ultimately made the final decisions about some of the shows on the network. In fact, it was mostly thanks to Packer that one of my favourite TV shows when I was a kid, Stingers, was allowed to remain on-air following it's first season (despite losing in the ratings to Ally McBeal at the time), and would eventually be a modest success, airing until the end of it's eighth season in 2004.
