TV Legend Schools The Internet Kid! SICK BLUFF
Gabe Kaplan, renowned actor and poker veteran, takes on the online wunderkind Tom Dwan in a huge pot on Poker After Dark. Gabe takes a tricky approach with suited rags and puts Durrrr in a tough spot on the river. Can he find the hero call, or should he wait for a better spot?
As always on Poker Hands, Doug breaks down each street of action and shares his thoughts on how each player made their decisions.

Tom knows Gabe is a tighter player. He easily could have checked trip A's or a boat on the turn to trap, especially after raising the flop. Good play by Gabe.
@getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917
Жыл бұрын
But which boats? There is only 1 combo of 33, 1 combo of A7s, and 0 combos of A3s and A2s. A set of Aces doesn't exist on the turn (it would be quads), not to mention there is only 1 combo of AA left. The only real boat I see that makes any real sense here is 77 of which there is 3 left. But at what frequency is Gabe raising a middling set on such a disconnected flop against such an aggressive player who perceives you as tight? Dwans removal here is near extraordinary for how shit of a holding he has. The only real thing Gabe had going was his image, and even then I am such a station that I might throw in the chip in if I was rolled for it (I can attest that old folks with tight images do in fact bluff, especially versus aggression). But to reiterate. I am a massive station who calls off river bluffs with K high so there is that, lol. When you really break it down, 54s for the backdoor wheel is the only real value hand I can see that makes any sense. Ignoring the fact that I'm not rolled for 300/600 (I would literally be squirming in my chair), I legitimately believe one could argue for a call here. As Dawn said, it's just "such a weird line", *especially* when factoring in removal.
@newstandardaccount

@@getmeoutofsanfrancisco9917 100% - Dwan's removal here is insane, and there are so few hands Kaplan has for value and the line is so strange. You can see the distress in Dwan's face. He wants to call so badly but his hand is atrocious - it would feel like a punt to call. I also wonder if he self leveled himself, thinking, "this line is so unbelievable that nobody with any sense would bluff like this"

Love Gabes commentary on High Stakes Poker, he gets a lot of it right, which given the people involved, is hard to do.. probably an under-valued poker pro as his skill is a bit "old skool", but, he HAS kept up with the times for the most part.. so just a really interesting hand.. I think Dwan has to put Gabe on any PPr from 2's thru 10s, as he would have raised with those pre-flop, and took a shot post, maybe made a boat on turn, or river, and has been trapping the whole way.. certainly in Gabes wheel house.. love it... Dwan is human after all.. I think if Gabe is against Kid Poker.. or Sammy.. or Antonio... he doesnt pull this off.. i think those guys call.. ok. mostly think they do...

@@nameommited If he had QQ or KK he's likely 4-betting pre-flop. I think not doing that against Dwan with those hands would be a definite mistake. The trouble for Dwan here is that 88-TT make a lot of sense (strong flop raise could easily be construed as an information raise against a loose-aggressive player). Add in the A-x's, big pairs, 54's, goofy 7s, and I guess he thought there was quite a bit beating him. As an aside, that's not a "counterfeit" 2 pair (obviously a second 7 was the counterfeiting card). And given it's much more likely Gabe would have had 44, 55 or 66 than 54, and that he could well have thought he had enough showdown value not to river bet them, it's actually a hand-improver for Dwan in the context of likely holdings, in my opinion.

Doug you the best bro! If I win the lottery, you gotta coach me!
Question for you Doug. If Dwan somehow had like 73 suited and took this line, what river play would you prefer from him? It's a better hand to bluff with seeing as you block the more likely boats, but are you really getting Gabe to fold trips he played this way? Would you call? Same spot as 32 is in except that now A7 and 77 are less likely so there's less value bets meaning maybe you can bluff catch with 73? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Just an idea for you Doug, since you are pretty heavy on your research. How about a "Where are they now?" series on the poker players of the past. People like Tom and Chris Ferguson ect. I think that would be a great series.

I think Tom assumes that Gabe also might be betting with something less than trips, full house, or a straight, but still better than his own 32. Thus, something like 44-66, but especially 88-99, which still beat Tom's hand. It is possible that Gabe also doesn't put Tom on an Ace, especially after Tom checks the river when Gabe checked behind on the turn, and then Gabe decides to bet with 44-66 and 88-99. Maybe in Tom's mind Gabe does not have to be polarized in this spot.
The video name is particularly GTO this time, I've gone through a wide range of emotions before even clicking on the vid.

Good video thanks
Thoughts on Dwan check raising river? He has more boats in his range when he bet calls flop and he blocks 33, 22.
@snapdawg0
7 жыл бұрын
Further to add to this if Kaplan had a 77/33 he would opt to bet bigger on the river putting Dwan on only Ax to call a river bet, so from that sizing it looks less likely that Kaplan can have a boat, instead trips more so that cant call a raise.
I was waiting for "9 high like a boss". I'm disappointed.

At these stakes you've got to make value bets look bluffy sometimes and also make bluffs look bluffy. Otherwise your play is too basic and easy for your opponents. It also allows you to be free to be more creative and make more plays. So... not necessarily.

Now this is nine high like a boss
This is a real old hand, but forgetting the fact that they are playing 300/600 I honestly believe I would call here simply due to Gabes Button-open (and) flatting-range, and with Dwans removal being pretty damn solid on this specific board. Not to mention Gabe shouldn't/most likely wouldn't be bluffing any middling pocket pairs on the river. The only real value hand that makes sense is 77 of which there are 3 combos, as well as *possibly* 54s of which there are 4. There is 1 combo of 33 (which can more or less be discounted regardless), 1 combo of A7s, and 0 combos of A3s and A2s. And 1 combo of AA, the latter of which I would completely discount (for all intents and purposes). It just doesn't make sense other than if Gabe backed into a wheel with 54s or just slammed the board with 77. With that said, how often is Gabe raising flopped middle set on such a disconnected board? On a whim, I personally would tend to believe his value flatting frequency on the flop would be considerably higher with how aggressive Dawn is. That being said I am personally a huge station and the type to call off huge pots with k high so what do I know.
That’s Awesome Gabe!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
