I really have lost a great deal of passion for the man outside of television unfortunately. Norman did in fact become a C. Wright Mills style power elitist by the 1980s

Like Norman the producer and writer more than I like Norman the person.
While Norman Lear could criticize Bill Cosby, he never could criticize OJ Simpson, who he and his group People for the American Way even likely protected. While I adore the enlightenment he gave us through his work, I don't adore some of the bad things he did as a power elitist. Outside of television, film and his World War 2 service, he did stuff I really didn't like. The legend of OJ was even hyped by Mr. Drummond on Different Strokes when Arnold wanted to be a football player
