What I would give just to go back to those simple pre-satellite TV days of watching Abu Dhabi TV and Dubai Channel 33 on the telly! The memories!

I agree with you! Just remembering my young days when I used to visit Doha, Qatar in the 70's. With a Yagi antenna & rotor, I could pick up nearby channels without a booster amplifier. With a sporadic E layer present during the summer, could pick VHF channels : Channel 3 (Aramco), Bahrain ch4, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai Ch 10, Oman (Mct), Local Iran stns, sometimes Pakistan (Karachi ch.4) & Jordan tv. ON UHF, could pick Dubai Ch. 33 & Bahrain ch.55

Wow, this is VERY interesting to watch! Thanks for uploading this. It's a great piece of history. You see the Emirs making historic trade moves in this news report, which pretty much tells you the story of how the modern day UAE came to be. I'm just trying to imagine Dubai not being the Dubai it is today, as a rough around the edges coastal pearling town and not the booming 21st century metropolis it is today.
