Nice day out with a ton of trout put in the boat, dude! I like how you worked the entire water column for those trout, kept experimenting around...Spook Jr on top, suspended hardbait in the middle and paddletails and shrimp lures for middle to bottom. Nice overslot red as icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing. Although I'm a pretty experienced inshore guy, I always learn a thing or two. You're a talented angler, my friend!

@@CurrentAngling I also appreciate your ability to find the fish, by considering current flow, structure, what the bait and birds are telling us, and the weather (water and air temps, sunlight, wind, fronts, tides, moon cycles, etc.). Because, as the pros tell us, 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water! Tight lines!

Thanks! I want to add value without coming off as a “know it all”. In my first videos I was a little more timid about giving tips because I didn’t want to sound like one. However, I got so many messages asking me questions like what I’m using and how I’m using it. Slowly I added more informative content to my videos and now I focus on it.

I’m in Stuart Florida. My largest trout was 31 1/4 inches off a 9 inch live mullet thought it was a tarpon at first till I got it in didn’t seem right because it wasn’t jumping. Great videos by the way!

Great video. I just found your channel and I like how you explain what you are doing and why. I fish the Beaufort/Hilton Head area a good bit and I've caught more trout on electric chicken paddle tails than any other bait. I like seeing you release the fish you catch. I tell my friends who ask why I don't keep the fish I catch "I'm not mad at them, I just want to catch them". I fish out of a classic Montauk 17 Boston Whaler but your videos make me curious about kayak fishing.

That’s awesome! I enjoy kayak fishing but enjoy the water in whatever way gets you out there. I just find a kayak to be convenient, quiet, and maneuverable. Electric chicken is awesome, especially in low visibility water. I’m looking to post a new video tomorrow so look out for it. Also, I throw most back and practice safe handling but I’ll keep a couple here and there for dinner!

Thanks! I come from a big game hunting background out west (kzread.info/head/PLHjlm-i-0H9OmZa8LdIcCWpqJOunwpkRP&feature=shared), so I try to put the hunt into my fishing style and am constantly moving and adjusting. Throwing artificials suits my style better than cut or live bait.

I have exactly the same pairing as your good setup. It is crazy how light it is.

I usually do a line to line connection using two universal knots. If I’m using a bait caster and have smaller guides I’ll use an FG knot. I’ll do a demo at some point but it’s easy to find a tutorial with those names.

Former dry landers unite! Doesn’t that just make the water that much more fascinating though? I used to sneak onto golf courses because that was the only fish able water in 100 miles. Here there near endless waterways to explore and fish to target. Love it!

Good stuff man. I always try to use artificials and usually end up giving up in an hour after getting skunked. Then I switch to live bait and crush it. Definitely want to get better throwing lures!

I fish fast, moving around to new spots constantly. Flinging artificial gives me the freedom of movement and ability to get a bait exactly where I want it. I fished almost exclusively live or cut my first few years inshore fishing. Thanks for watching!

I use to exclusively fly fish with guides. Then I Bought a kayak and switched to baitcasters and spinning reels with artificial lures. Now I bought a boat with a livewell and I'm going to learn to fish with live bait just for those times when there is so much bait in the water that a fly or artificial just won't get it done!

Mine is a med power X fast action 7’. I prefer a ML rod for most inshore; however, I’ve lost some stud fish around docks not having the power to stop them. When I ordered the Avid I decided on the Med and am happy with it. Still light but stiff enough to stop them.

Hate treble hooks. Do you ever change them out for in-line and would that work? Also, looking to join a kayak fishing group once I move down to Charleston (this coming spring). I’m mostly a largemouth fisherman and have a peddle kayak. Are you with Lowcountry Kayak Anglers?

How do you fish the electric chicken? Steady retrieve? Medium speed?

The beauty of a paddle tail is how versatile it is. I don’t fish it just one way but start faster and higher on the water column with a constant retrieve, if I’m not finding active fish I’ll slow down, bumping it on the bottom and dead sticking it for a few seconds. In the video I was mostly letting it sink, reeling in slack, dragging it on the bottom by lifting the rod tip, reeling down the slack and repeating. Being intentional to only progress the lure by the lifting of the rod and only using the reel for the slack. This slows the retrieve and allows you to feel the bottom well. Particularly important as the water gets cold this winter. Downsize profile and work deep and slow. Hope this helps, it is difficult to answer straight forward with so many variables.

Would you recommend your finder? Believe it's a Garmin striker vivid correct?

Garmin Striker 9” model before the vivid. It’s great for the value, I think I paid 350 two years ago at an academy online sale. I didn’t need the map in a kayak. For a side scan you can beat that for price. However, don’t expect to see fish on side with it, just structure
