Tutorial: Procedural Textures in Blender
Blender is a free, open source software you can download at blender.org/download/
Blender v2.81 update: At 05:35 in the video - if you're using Blender v2.81 or later, make sure to use the 'Distance' output of the Voronoi Texture node instead of 'Color'. This will correctly displace the surface identical to the results of this tutorial.

For those who're confused on the thin splits around the sphere and the scale isn't working in voronoi in blender version 2.9, go to voronoi texture, replace the node section from "color" to "distance" in the voronoi texture towards height on displacement.

@@fantasticklemagique2834 You might've mis-followed the tutorial, different blender version, or its something else I dont know about
I've watched a lot of Blender tutorials, but yours are different. You not only deliver everything concisely (this video is under 10 minutes!) but you also make it engaging and fun to learn. Thanks!
Best Blender tutorial I've seen in a long time. I liked how you showed the results and the nodes used at the bottom left corner like on 6:55 to 7:18. I was looking for a tutorial specially about procedural texturing. That is what led me to this tutorial and it was delivered spot on. Looking forward to seeing more like this.
Out of all my years watching videos and tutorials; I just have to say, you have a magic touch to your teaching in blender, you make it advanced yet simple to understand and fun at the same time. Rewarding for an equivalent amount of effort and giving immediate results after the work is complete! Thank you for making these and posting them! You've boosted my understanding greatly and even more so motivated me to work harder at blender and learn more as much as possible.
Love the fact that he explained the purpose of the nodes and why he used what. Some tutorials just tell you to follow step by step without telling you why those steps are needed. Really awesome stuff. Keep up!
I've been following you for awhile now and you work is absolutely breathtaking. Me being a developing blender artist and seeing your work has showed me what I really want to do, I've now elected to do TAFE education instead of highschool to pursue Blender and 3D works. Thank you so much for your influence, it means a lot.
That short animation is beyond impressive. The little robot is just adorable. Can't wait for the whole thing!
I loved this tutorial sooo much!
Bob Ross Blender class? Made a happy little ball.. :)
This tutorial introduces nodes in such an easy and fun way , at first i saw all these tutorials that had 40+ nodes and it looked overwhelming. But this was so easy to understand.
I was told that you can't connect color to a vector. I feel violated.... Please make more procedural texture tutorials!

Well, color is R G B in grayscale values, vectors are X Y Z. There's no problem converting 0-1 grayscale range into numeric vector coordinates. :D

I thought blender wouldn't even let you connect unmatching colored dots on the nodes. I could have sworn i've tried to do that and it wouldnt let me.
@DeathxStrike18
5 жыл бұрын
@@fatal510 the color dot only indicates its function not its connectivity as long as the two connections output the same type of value needed they work fine, some dots wont connect and that has more to do with the output data not being in the parameters I.E if the node only reads number values it wont accept a script input.

Impressive stuff! Your ideas are inspiring as always
The result has amazed and captivated me at the same time, it's great what blender can do when you have the right hardware equipment. Good job Polyflord!
Dude, what the heck, this is one hell of a tutorial. Love that you taught about the nodes and how they interact with each other. Awesome stuff.
I love how your tutorials teach really well but also sprinkle humor in them, it's great
Amazing tutorial, and i gotta tell you something, these high quality short clips with the material applied in the object and the nodes in the corner are simply JAWS DROPPING. A super elegant way to showcase the work, great visual language, hope it's possible to see more of it in future tutorials. Congrats!
DAMN! Wasn't expecting that transition effect with the different setting of the procedural texture! Keep the good work UP!

He deserves a LOTT more subscribers than he has. Just look at the quality of these videos, they are amazing. This channel is criminally underrated.
I think that's the best "beginner" tutorial I've seen out there that's actually going to have me pick up Blender for the first time and do something with it.
These tutorials are really great. I used to work a lot with 3DS Max back around 2003, and did it professionally for 6 years. Then I went into mathematics, got a PhD, and now I'm a professor. I've been doing a lot of work with KZread, got to resurrect some skills in Premiere (took a year to dust that off), and now I'm looking to get into doing some visuals using Blender, MATLAB, and some Python script in the background. Thank you so much for making these quick and easy to digest tutorials. I know the basics, but I've never worked with Blender before. This is helping speed things up for me tremendously.
I am in love with this.... I've always felt stupid when it comes to adding textures to objects, and I've always believed that there was a way to create a character skin or ground or something in this manner!!!! Awesome, just ideal!!! Great, now I just need to spend next year to learn all of this.... thank you.
Not just great free tutorial, but also free materials - you are a very generous person!
Thank you ! this tutorial is very good, good speed, not to fast and not to slow, no rambling about other stuff, and you explain everything as you go :) brilliant, people making tutorials should look at this as a good example :)
The way u explained, is literally awesome, usually people don't explain anything with such a detail !
i have been using blender for a few months now and this was very helpful for making procedural shaders. great tutorial and thank you
Your use of sound design makes this tutorial stand out SO much.
This is one of the best tutorials out there, simple , quick , clear, and effective!
Late to the party, but I have to say ... you are GENIUS! And a gifted teacher. Thank you for producing these tutorials for us mortals!
I learned so much about materials in this video alone. Crazy how much options there are!
I don't even know how to begin to thank you for this tutorial... Firstly, the production quality is amazing...especially the cinematography and sound. But the content...gave me goosebumps. By the end of the video...you had my heart racing. You have my thumbs and my sub. No Patreon? Can't wait to watch Stack.
You got the skills to express and explain stuff better and a lot of tut videos I came across on youtube. Looking forward to more videos by this channel!
I could not expect this tutorial to be so facinating!
One of the best tutorials I've ever watched, on any subject. Brilliant.
This is perfection made tutorial. This is how a top level tutorial is made. Really compliments, please do more and more of these. Perfect balance between music, speech, storytelling, and of course content and info. Many should learns from how you're doing it.

this is absolutely crazy! you blew my mind with connecting color to vector input, absolute madness O_O. by the way, this is one of the best free tutorials on youtube, as people mentioned before me you started to build tension and blown people away with proper music fragment at 6:42. i'm pretty sure that you are the one of the best teachers out there, just because you causing emotions during learning, and that is the thing that school will never get, that learning can and should be fun. surwive there ;)
