Brilliant! Thank you...although you could just add....It is possible, (when you click on properties), that the app displayed as the one which will open your file might be lying, (as I found), and needs setting again to ACTUALLY be the correct one. i.e. my properties window was displaying WORD as being set to open my word files, BUT was Open Office, (which I had recently installed), and had hijacked all of my word files! I followed your insstructions in spite of it telling me it was already set to have Word open the files and I reset it to word...and hey presto all the icons on my PC changed from Open Office back to Word! Hoorah!

Hello. I have WORD on my iMac. Evidently I hit a key on the keyboard by mistake and when I go to open a default doc to create something, the default doc is very tiny in the middle of the screen. I've played around with different keys and nothing seems to get it back to the original default size. Help!! Thanks......

Great tutorial. Clear and concise. However, here is my situation . . . I have Windows 10. I want to have my documents automatically open in Google Chrome every time because, currently, when I choose to open a document, it automatically opens in Word format and during that conversion process the text reformats with random characters, missing text, etc. To avoid that problem I choose the 'open with Google Chrome' format option and the text then appears clean - no random conversion errors/changes. How can I automatically set up Google Chrome as the 'open with' default so I won't need to go through this frustrating process each time? Thank you for your time and expertise.

My problem is that if i click any word file it will prompt "how do you want to open .docx file" i will click ms word and then nothing happens. I know the file is not corrupt because if i open ms word and open that certain file through ms word it open normally, its a bit annoying because instead of clicking on the file directly i would now have to open ms word and then manually find that file

When you right click on the Word file and select properties, what program does it show as the default? You may follow the steps in the video, even if it shows Word as the default still. Hopefully re-applying the Default Program settings manually will help.

Can u please tell how disable it. Like every file I open, it open on word and i hate that

You will probably need to scroll down to where it says "more apps" and then if you still don't see it, scroll down some more and select "Look for another app on this PC", and then find where the Word 2019 is located on your computer in the Program Files.

After right clicking - Properties - General tab - Change button, you should see a list of programs too choose from in a pop up. If you don' see any programs or don't see the right one, you can scroll down and select "More Apps" to search more. I'm not sure what you're seeing, but I hope that helps.

You may have to scroll down to more programs and find the root folder location to where Microsoft office is located. Usually in c drive, programs, and find word in the Microsoft office root folder.

Hi Moneca, make sure you are clicking on a document file and not on the Notepad program itself. Then once you click on "Properties", make sure you select the "General" tab. Hope that helps.
