Yiiiiiii! That video must've been informative! I tried to place steering but couldn't and I noted you recommended using spherical tool for the wheels and no-collide.

Really nice Idea! I only managed to make a few vehicles with actual steering, using a stupid technique. This one is way better. (Also I guessed that you're from Sweden and wasn't wrong. I understood that by your accent(especially the "CH" sound) and the way you form the sentences, use some words that are rarely used by English speakers.) By the way, love that accent. I can be proud of myself and stop thinking about being a complete failure now... for 5 minutes.

Haha well it is a nice steering way, we also got an other way using e2 chips, needed for some faster cars. Ahyhow glad you like the video and check more tutorials if you need build tips! True indeed from sweden! glad you enjoy the accent, sometimes i note i prefer using elder english words as we use them in swedish, but other than that I don't hear my own accent so much ^^

When I get the hydraulic to turn, it works well but I tend to find that it doesn't always go back to its original position. I thought maybe it was the damping so I tried to adjust that and it didn't seem to help. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks.

Maybe you are referring to smartsnap, the mod is in my collection in steam if you cant find it.

My hydraulics swing back and forwards once it reaches max distance in either direction. Seems to have a lot of bounce. Any fix for that?

Looks like you want to make a realistic car, did you ceck out the popular addon ACF? Got's loads of tutorials for that. What one can do with only wire is connecting up sound emitters with speciffic sounds to buttons.

How can i recreate the steering e2 with Gates? I'd like apply this knowledge to other contraptions i move onto, but not by just slapping an e2 on there and changing variables.

You can't exactly because the ship uses "set angle" functions.

@Artameful There's a few ways to do it without E2, but having a bunch of gates will cause lag, fair warning. 1. You can use constant value gates to give you the values needed, such as the default length, extension/compression length, velocity, etc. Then use other gates to make it happen. (If you want more detail message me.) Also note that without using e2, you will have to use MANY gates to actually make it happen, since e2 runs off of written code in your e2 script it is able to condense everything into one single e2 chip instead of multiple. I would recommend learning how to use E2 for those reasons. It can be overwhelming at first but just remember, E2 is quite literally just using all the functions of gates, except in a line of code instead of physical gates.

I'd like to also add that a lot of the time, e2 is adjustable with just a few clicks. Gates on the other hand, you would have to adjust each gate accordingly & more than likely have to change other gate setups if a change you make conflicts with them. So generally speaking, e2 is quicker, easier & much less of a hassle. However, I too don't like using e2 as gates make it more fun personally, so I get you. Just know that the gate route is almost always going to be more complicated & involve much more time and effort

Check your wiremod settings, it's able to be enabled/disabled

i tried to do this and the axis and front wheels were very floppy and glitchy :(

@@GMODISM Tried that and it didn't really work. It helped a little but not enough. Basically, what's happening is the part that the wheel is attached is being pulled down by the weight of the wheel which either brings the wheels inwards or outwards. If I phys the part the wheel is connected, the wheel is straight up. But then I can't drive the car because the prop is frozen. Any ideas?

There is not one solution in gmod, so there are hundreds of ways you could solve this problem, try it out! ^^

The prop you have your steering rods axis'd to, you need to increase it's weight. On the default length, round DOWN to the nearest number, this puts slight pressure on it which helps keep it straight.

On the default hydraulic length, round DOWN to the nearest whole number. If its already whole, decrease it by 1. This puts them under slight pressure with each other & helps keep them aligned

or we could just make a real car steering parts, but without the steering wheel part

+Gmodism Total Nerdery Channel well you set it up in away that when you press a button it will hold a speed. hmm idk try setting it up like a gate or somthing gets a continuous value a gradually increase and decrease so if you wanted to you could apply that value to a throttle of some sort

Okay, I think the updated car tutorial can help you, also for tanks building i recommend ACF APC tutorial for new tank also :)

this tutorial sucks. the thing is 22 minutes long and you still go too fast. I could barely keep up with connecting the add gates and stuff, and my car doesnt steer.
