    Hi Melinda, thanks for the only taping the sides tip! What an awesome idea , thank you! Can I give you a tip, Paint the edges of the coaster, it’s so much cheaper and also more durable but paint them before you resin, the varnish will seal it. This is the first video I watched of yours and I will definitely be checking out your other videos. ;)

    I have Art Resin epoxy and used it on a number of my coasters always with the same result: it does not take cups with hot liquids as they leave rings/indentation on the tile/coaster. As per Art Resin website: The maximum temperature that cured ArtResin can tolerate is 120F or 50C. Which is a bit hotter than the tap hot water. So no, it doesnt really work for the cups with hot beverages.

    Melinda Howard l don’t have any issues with it. I did use resin from Home Depot but it wasn’t heat resistant. I’m by no means an expert,so it works for me. The price is very competitive and they have free shipping. I always stock up when they have a sale 🙂. I like all of our art,you are very talented.

    Your coasters are stunning! 😍 My daughter (11yrs) is an artist and recently started to make alcohol ink coasters. We used Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze, and we were happy with the results, but a hot mug placed on top of them will stick! Any suggestions that don't involve the epoxy? Thank you! ❤

    Could someone help me? I have made beautiful coasters, poured resin, and they were totally covered. They looked like glass. I thought I might go over them a bit with the heat gun to 1. Smooth out any bubbles I might not have seen, and 2. Progress along the drying time. What I am noticing in that on many on the edges It looks like they have quickly dried and dipped down into the resin, not flat with the rest. Help!

    Thank-you for this video...very comprehensive and the coaster tiles are so very lovely. But I was wondering, what would happen if one skips the first two steps and just puts on the resin only?

  • @MelindaHowardArt

    @MelindaHowardArt

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Kathleen! Thank you for the sweet comments about the coasters. 🥰 As far as skipping the first 2 steps, I actually did try that. But the pen work and some of the color smeared. The Kamar varnish protects the work from other products. I’m not sure if they have alcohol in them or just some other kind of chemical that loosens the alcohol ink, but the varnish helps protect them. You probably could skip the UV Resistant. But I like the extra protection.

    Hi! Thanks for your questions, (and for watching my videos!) I don't think you would have to seal the edges, but it might look more consistent to seal it all at once, including the edges. I am not sure about mod podge. I would think it would depend on the amount of use the coaster will get. I hope that helps! Thanks again!

    Beautiful coasters. I also love to create these. Quick question: have you ever used a larger tile to make a trivet and if so, any idea what you can use to make the trivet able to withstand high heat?

  • @MelindaHowardArt

    @MelindaHowardArt

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you Deb! I have not tried a larger tile. Good idea! Might be nice as a wall hanging! I actually don’t think it would work well with extremely high heat like you’d need for a trivet function though. I might do a little research about that myself! 🤔

    @@MelindaHowardArt I agree about the high heat. I am applying a small hook on the back of the larger tile so it can be hung. If you find something for the high heat, let me know and I’ll do the same.

    Thank you for such a detailed and informative video - I watched it several times in anticipation of my first resin project. It didn't go too badly, but my resin ended up pulling back from all the edges of my tiles. I wiped them clean, I don't think it's a leveling issue, and I was very careful measuring my resin using the calculator. Do you have any ideas what could have caused this?

  • @MelindaHowardArt

    @MelindaHowardArt

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi! Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it! As far as your resin pulling away, I am unsure. Are you using the same brand? (Art Resin). The only thing I can think of is either they aren’t level or maybe they needed a little more of the resin possibly - enough to almost pool over the edges? Did you also spray them first with Kamar varnish and let them dry completely? I hope this has helped a little. It’s difficult to say what happened unless I know your products and process. Hope the next time goes better for you! 😊

    @@MelindaHowardArt Thank you for your quick reply! I used Faux Rizzle's Nouveau. One coaster came out beautifully and the rest all did this. I did 2-3 layers of Kamar and 2-3 layers of UV quite a few weeks ago and only just did the resin now. I thought I mixed enough because there was some overflow but maybe I need to add a bit extra just to be sure. Resin is such an interesting medium full of potential, but seems to be a bit tricky haha
