You're welcome. Although warning....it does tend to become obsessive! Lol after seeing what you can create with Mystery Chips you then can't help but make some in individual colours straight from glaze jars! Lol enjoy. Would love to hear how you get on ;)

You wrote this perfectly and it really means a lot to hear your words. Thankyou so much. Playing with clay is so therapeutic but the clay community is also so heartwarming and encouraging. With I had a community studio I could play clay in person with others, but this interaction is wonderful thankyou!

Great video Jeanette, I do similar to save my brush washing water but use disposable paper coffee cups to wash my brushes, then place them on the shelf in the greenhouse to evaporate the water off, as the paper cups have a waxy lining on the inside the dry glaze flakes off easily. It saves the glaze from the brushes and also gives the used coffee cups a second life. I use a piece of baking paper to collect the chips on before they go into a storage jar. When I open a new jar of glaze I peel off the foil seal and allow this to dry before scrunching up to get the chips off. I also open my glaze jars over a square of paper, this catches any chips that come off the threads of the jar as the lid is unscrewed.

@@FarForestCeramics I’m only a beginner and have only done a few glaze firings, I’ve only used the chips on small heart shaped earring/trinket dishes so far (about 4” in size), three coats of Amaco Snow and then chips sprinkled all over while the last coat of glaze is still damp. I’ve probably been a little heavy handed with the chips but the grand daughters and there friends love them, I’ve yet to try a plate with just a line of chips sprinkled across it, still slowly building up my jar of chips as I use my glazes more. One thing I have noticed with some of the glazes is that when washing your brushes out and the water evaporates, then the different glazes settle and dry in distinct layers. A question on a totally different subject, when you place silica sand under your plates, how much do you use, is it just a pinch, a teaspoonful or more. I’ve managed to track down a pottery supplier who has silica sand in NZ, they are few and far between, so I’ll be getting some to try with my plates, so far it only seems to be plates on the top two shelves that have a tendency to warp, the lower two shelves have been okay.

So glad it was helpful. I do tend to push the boundaries, and never know where to stop but It could be endless. Hate waste and these chips are so much fun to use. Would love to hear how you get on making some yourself

That's so kind and sweet of you. Been enjoying time in studio but suffered a bout of pneumonia which set me back. Funnily enough was thinking this week I need to edit some KZread footage I have and post it! Means a lot you checking in thankyou!

I recycle the same way with my (homemade) glazes. When I rinse brushes, sponges,... everything gets recycled. Only I turn it into a 'slop glaze'. Maybe I need to start making chips.

I started with slop glaze but soon realised the alternative application opportunity with Chips. So much fun too x

Have you tried sintering your glaze chips and then adding them to your glaze before applying to your pots?

Hi, I've not tried that technique before but I have to admit it does interest me. I've just decided to have a go at making my own glazes so maybe that is something I can consider experimenting with.

The little heart shaped test tiles, what do you use to write the color name onto the back of the tile?
