I drove a rental Subaru forester in July 2023 up and down. It takes about 4 to 5 hrs to reach Omalo. They have widened the road so incoming traffic is not really a problem. The road is very rocky, it’s first gear 99% of the time unless you want to break a sway bar or strut. I’d say it’s rocks, rocks and rocks and lots of hairpins in latter part. You’ll need an AWD because of ground clearance but 4x4 is not necessary unless in extreme weather. Not really dangerous if you’re focused just demanding 100% attention to driving.

This is the only way to Omalo (Tusheti) It is not recommended to drive there during the rainy season. You also need a good off-road car (4 × 4) and a return trip of at least 2 days. This experience and the beauty that opens up there will be remembered for a long time :)
