Turning Zendaya's adorable acapella into sweet vocal chops
What do you get if you take the adorable Zendaya singing "smile" and chop it up into some kind of melodic techno track? Well, you're about to find out. 😊
This is a vocal chopping technique that's just about the simplest possible approach to get fun and effective results in Ableton Live, using the Simpler device.

@@OscarUnderdog The way you approach music production is very hands on and to the point. Most schools/studies/courses give a lot of (lack of better words) "extra information" which tend to obscure the parts that you actually want to know. Although that "extra information" serves it's purpose, it feels a lot of times to much information. Plus I experienced that most teachers forget how much they know and assume you have the same frame of reference. You do not, Oscar and that really makes these videos of great learning value. Keep it up! And thank you.

Your instructions are top class as always - thank you so much for your work! You really established some sort of "general manual" for electronic music production. Never found quality content like this somewhere else! In my eyes you're writing techno-history, Oscar!!! :) Much love from Germany
Pure, each time!
Thanks for a great video

One of (if not) the best videos out there on vocal chop techniques.
Love the final track. Given you don't plan to release it I'd be really interested to see a full breakdown of it. The transitions and build up are great. Plus you did a lot more with the vocal than you show here :)
Thank you very much!

Amazing 💟
The power of keeping the whole recording standing by is shocking to me. As I learned sampling in the early days of useful hardware samplers, I could never have tied up so much memory in order to facilitate this workflow. Of course with contemporary software/hardware capabilities there's no immediate need to create discrete, permanent chunks you can no longer taylor. It's a whole new way of thinking for me. Not sure my noodle can handle the freedom🤩
I'm rewatching this after 7 months and still it blows my mind with something new that went past me when I first watched it. This is definitely going into my next tune.
Every time I see this tutorial it blows me away. There is a similar one at EDM Tips, and I am going to try and combine the two techniques for my new track which I am almost done with featuring the late Carl Sagan and Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane. It's taken me hours to get right but rewatching this tutorial I can see where I am going wrong. This is one of those mind-blowing tutorials that I just keep coming back to in order to reinforce my understanding. Brilliant.
Love the sweater
thank you~~learn a lots!

thank you!! Now I know what to do with the vocals wich I recorded from games and some series from Netflix :)
Current Value - Dark Rain is the best implementation of this technic. For sure I'll download this track as well, as the beginning of the video was ultra vibe

i feel like the middle part of that track has been rather gated than chopped or that would make more sense and less work. the sample clip sounds the same throughout the whole track.

Thanks for using samplar in this instance, this device unless used frequently is a bit overwhelming when trying to use, maybe an in depth review of these classic ableton devices with potentials!? There really is no limit on there stocks, incredible content yet again Oscar, sharing your content regularly legend!

Man U did something
Awesome info here! There's a calibre remix of the classic house track Sense of Danger, I think he uses similar tech to this and I've been wondering for years how to do it!
hi Oscar, a fan of your channel, really appreciate the content that you make. would you be willing to make a full breakdown of the track ? I'd pay for the thing

Me not being able to stop thinking of the classic song “A E I O U” we’re going to the track store

I'm honestly a bit sad you've stepped away from mainly Reason tutorials 😢 ...but I still watch you, because you are a good teacher. This technique for example... I would like to know more on how you would set this up in Reason using Mimic. Would you use a single instance of Mimic or many? How would you analyze and realize your "stutter voice" idea in Reasons workflow?
Sounds like a footwork track 👍
Hey, nice tip ! I would like to know how you achieved the little repeats preceding the voice on the beat, how you dosed the crescendo of it

This is amazing. Do you have a full course for creating a track like this, down to mastering? or this template available?

Always informative, but I was waiting on your tips on the Vocal Glitch effect, is that just a matter or putting 1/32 notes in followed by a longer note in the drum rack? I have trouble coming close to that effect.
@OscarUnderdog

Yep 32nd notes! Sometimes simple is best :)
I would like to make a suggestion and i know the perfect reference song its called “caminho de dreyfus rebolledo remix” it has some crazy vocals I’ve always been curious to learn and sure your gonna love, thank you and do plan on becoming a student soon!!
Possible to share what kind of bass line that is? The driving, rolling kind.

Der mann hat es richtig drauf
is this drumrack thing with different vocal starting points wich u have done at the end of the video also possible on fl studio? Best regards
So ..we don't need to check the scale of source song...? Or have an eye on singer notes???!!!! Doesn't this mess the harmony or I donno, tune of our main track? By the way, loved the video and congratulations on new studio
@OscarUnderdog
2 жыл бұрын
Well, I didn't want to remake the original track, Iw anted to do something more abstract with the voice. So then you just follow your instinct :)
Why don't you use FL Studio?
hate to correct the teacher, but if you have ableton standard and drag a clip on the midi, you get a simpler (not a sampler)
@OscarUnderdog
2 жыл бұрын
True, also in suite 😁 I would argue simpler is a type of sampler instrument tho!
It's funny, I really like the smallest sliced stuff, but the larger stuff ("aching"? at 1:26) annoys me enough that it's hard to listen to. It's been twenty years now, but it reminds me of BT or Moby, that I thought were fantastic the first two or three times, but I came to detest so much that I don't want to hear any of them ever again. ("Oh lordy lord, trouble so hard". It's been two decades!) What's the reason for hating artificially repeated vocals so much? Does this happen to anyone else or just me?
Super usufull all your videos, waiting to finish all of them to star the lesson in the website
Far too fast, my screen not doing the same as yours. Annoying for a newly
Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't the use of a sample in your song still require the owner's permission once you publish it, commercially or otherwise?
Love it, do you have a tutorial for that kinda Bassline as well?
