Turning Tofu Waste Into Cooking Gas Helps Clean Rivers In Indonesia | World Wide Waste

The runoff from tofu factories pollutes rivers and kills fish. Over the last 40 years, Indonesia has built almost 50,000 biogas plants to convert the wastewater. We visited Sumedang to see how communities are producing cooking fuel from the waste of this popular food.
The tofu factories visited: Haji Oji and ITA

You can easily see Dr Neni Sintawardani is a true scientist who’s dedicated to the field. She said that the technology is not patented, so there’s no reasons for these plants not to be built all around Indonesia.

8:10 after she said "we have nothing to hide", she also said "we didn't patent this technology". But it didn't get translated. That's the most important takeaway here. No excuses for the Indonesian government.

I'm not sure how the cooking gas distribution works in indonesia but if erratic timings is an issue in households with respect to biogas from tofu, gas cylinders could be a good alternative instead of pipelines... In india, in a number of households gas cylinders are still being used. It might take up a little more time and energy but save the family from the erratic cooking hrs problem and make more people adapt it.

Now the Indonesian government really has no excuse not to increase this throughout their entire country! I get tired of watching intelligent, productive, responsible people create ways to improve life for the planet and humans, only to have the wealthy and powerful tie it up with bureaucratic nonsense to line their own pockets! So let me gets this straight. 20 billion was pledge to help Indonesia stop burning coal, while I have to have my electric rates increased this winter because my state still uses coal and natural gas for supplying electricity? Why not spend that money locally and get us off burning all the natural gas and coal first?
