you probably could, open up the pre-existing seams and just add panels of diff jeans, the turn and finish the edge. as long as you know the width you want at the bottom, the hard part (waist) stays mostly the same.

Historical fashion nerd here. I fully agree! Sewing actually is not that hard and mending is even easier. People used to wear their clothes to the grave and just modify them to fit better and follow the current fashion every few years, and once they got too small for alterations they just passed them down to younger siblings and family members. Even rich people did this. If last years' ballgown didn't really fit you anymore or was a bit too vintage for your taste, you'd repurpose it into a teagown! And you could ask your maid to remove the trim from your sister's old opera gown to put it on yours because she didn't need it anymore. The fast fashion industry has changed the way we look at clothes and definitely helped make it accessible to people that can't afford expensive stuff but it also considerably worsened the quality so if you can afford it, invest in better quality and learn how to mend. I won't pretend they did everything right in the past because it wasn't the case but that is definitely something we should pick up again

It's not necessarily wasting! I do this sort of thing and I almost always use clothes that are too small or ones that I never wear. They would go into landfill otherwise, so it's not wasting them

I think it's mainly because of body shape lot's of people with big legs don't look good with skinny jeans especially men so wearing straight fit jeans and baggy jeans will be better for them if you are skinny you can pretty much were whatever you want and look good
