Turning Create This Book into a Sculpture

Ойын-сауық

This week I tackle another prompt from Moriah Elizabeth's Create This Book 2. However, I use Sculpey Original polymer clay to bring my 2D drawing to 3D life. Let's see how cute this kitty can be.

I have a couple art organizers from the make up section. Also from the make up section, I sometimes use make up brushes as paint brushes and it can be a cheaper way to get good feeling brushes for watercolor or acrylic paint!

As a knitter and a cat lady, I love-love-love this episode!! Round flower vases with straight, not tapered sides, make great pen dividers if you arrange them honey-comb style in a cube organiser. If the pens are shorter, you can fill in the bottom of the vase with tissue paper so that the pens are always easy to reach at the opening of the vase. I use ice cube trays for paint palettes, too, expecially the ones with lids.

First of all: THIS IS HELLA CUTE and second: I repurposed a disenfectant spray for a water spray bottle, packing paper for brown paper to draw on (or make books with) and I also know that (especially in the doll customizing community) that small nail art brushes are really popular for tiny details (and way cheaper than specific detail brushes for acrylic paint) same with makeup brushes for applying pastels

Makeup brushes is the best repurpose idea I stumbled on- way too many years to late! They are big quality, soft, hold their shape, ment to be cleaned & perfect little short sizes for travel or kit making - I can’t believe I wasn’t using them sooner!!

Not really “art studio” hack but I’ve recently been up-cycling and making my own home decor. So here’s my tip; bathroom things such as soap dispensers make beautiful vases or bottles for display (of course removing the spout)

I would LOVE to see a video of non craft craft supplies ideas! I bet everyone here has a lot of good ones! I love how you used the yard for the lovely texture in the book. I wouldn’t have thought to build on the pages like that. Some supplies I got from other places: hardware store I got wood color paint pens, top coat sealers, white base paint for paint pouring (they have these small 8 oz sample jars!) Paint stir sticks- 3 sizes! Cheap paint roller and different matting of the rolls. The paint trays come in a lot of sizes Sanding blocks! I use for almost all my crafts. I made a paint pouring drip tray from the masonry section- nice huge hard basin that paint peels off of I got a pack of sanding paper at the dollar store! Use face dermatology tools for clay sculpting Dollar store: Cookie sheet as a drip tray for painting and wet stuff. The cutting Mats. Glass cutting board for a paint pallet & cutting mat & wet stuff. I use condiment bottles for paint pouring making my own mixes. Those silicone spatulas - tiny ones are good for mixers. I use any plastic garbage I have as disposable paint tray/ palettes. Or plastics jars for water

Blossom is very cute in both iterations - you did a great job! My re-purposing include using a makeup brush to brush away the bits from coloured pencils. Also using old metal tins, take away containers etc. for storage of art and craft supplies, an office trolley for an art trolley and old binders and Manila folders for storing templates etc.

I absolutely love this little kitten. The yarn ball was a great idea with the prompt. Answer: yes I use a deviled egg tray that has a lid as a paint palette. Its huge and holds a lot of paint. Plus the lid helps the paint to last longer so I'm not wasting a whole lot at a time. I also use parchment paper on my desk for cover and a microfiber kitchen towel to wash and reuse as paint rags. Instead of washi tape i use painters tape cuz its dollar store price range. I also use dollar store sandpaper. I have to place my supplies in a cabinet because of my cat will run off with my brushes so hack for leaving art to dry is use a small bakers rack. You can keep canvases and paper or even adjust the shelves for small sculptures to dry on. It keeps it out of reach from animals or kiddos with sticky fingers.

For things that aren't art specific but work well: 1- Plastic trays, like the ones in cafeterias. They help keep projects organized. 2- Nail polish remover as 100% acetone. They come in small quantities versus the home stores. 3- If you're doing a mural, buy sampler sizes of paint at home good stores. Cheaper than acrylic tubes and consistent color. 4- Milliput. It's a 2 part apoxy sculpt used for plumbing but can be really useful to sculpt with. For general clay, may help to find some cosclay. It's flexible when baked so it's less likely to break. Would work great for the single strand of clay. I know you can't buy it anymore but NerdeCrafter sold a box with a portable airbrush in it. It had a higher PSI so it was one of the better ones on the market. I found it on amazon, sold by Hunter Tribe Store. Looks like a white label rebrand though. Might be able to find something that's closer to Australia. 14:52 Nvm, you def have her airbrush. Love how Blossom turned out ^^. The colors look great

I use a paper towel holder as my bubble wrap holder when packing up stuff or orders I use those baking mats with the printed on circles (I think they are for baking or like pizza crust sizing) as my “clean up” mat. I use a dollar store grid cutting small mat as my hot glue gun pad for when it drips. When I get out the paint stuff for my kid, I first put down that plastic wrapping paper stuff (for like those basket gifts where they wrap it all up in transparent gift wrap) on the table for easy clean up. Because it’s a long gift wrap style, I can just roll it on there. Because it is plastic, I don’t have to worry about the paint or water seeping through it. I’m sure I have more but that all I can think of for now.

From the fishing store, little fishing line snips. Really helps with those I just need to cut this real quick. IKEA, love using their monitor riser without the draw to give area behind my cricut machine and allows me to stack ontop of it. 0.15c rulers to wind washi tapes on, as it prevents the cat from running away with said taped. Bobbin storage things, like a flat winder thing to store ribbons onto to save space, then those annoying small rubber like hair bands hold them into place. I kinda have sooo many things lol.

I put sponges in the bottom for sharp things I don’t want to wreck the point of scissors ect. I also use the candle jars for paint water as I can cover them with the lids. I’ve got cats that always seem to want to drink the dirty paint water. House paint make up sponges for stencils biscuit tins storage for stamps and old books from vinnies and so so many other things. So cool what you can use as art supplies and to store them as well. Two dollar shops are great too. Cheers cherieK

Love this, so cute! I use a collapsible mixing bowl and cake spatula for plaster and leave things on a cooling rack to get more air and dry out properly after demoulding. Pan and pyrex for candle making, skewers to make a hole for the wick if I'm using moulds. Cheap picture frame for a glass paint palette... I basically walk around on the lookout for anything that catches my eye as potential art/craft tools, I think I only buy the "proper" supplies for resin crafts.

I don't even need to add water. I do the same with snack pots if I have a larger amount.

8:54 😂😂😂 (context: I am from the USA) I just went to Google and searched, "Define Skalittle". It changed it to skeletal, but it still didn't click with me! So I thought, "Well, I must be spelling it wrong." So I used the microphone to say "Define Skalittle"and still, it gave me the definition of skeletal. It wasn't until this point that I realized you are saying skeletal, just the way, I guess, you guys say it in Australia. I cracked up!! I thought I was going to learn a new vocabulary word today! 😂😂😂

🤣🤣🤣 The Aussie accent really butchers the vowel sounds.

I had a list of craft hacks and recently added a few new art/painting hacks. I never got the chance to put them into a video. I could share them with you, just in case there are any you’d like to add to your video? What’s the best way to do that? 😊 Also, I think the kitty came out so cute! Great job! I need to try making sculptures of my little kitties. 😊

I loved how you translated Blossom into a clay figurine!! It's seemed like a very smooth process and I'm impressed how routined you are with polymer clay! I always struggle with it - yet I guess you might be more familiar with it than me x'D I recently used airdry clay, which I feel does listen better to me and is kind of easier to handle. Since you have used both materials too, is airdry clay easier to handle than polymer clay? Or is it maybe that I use clay from another company. In my country sculpey clay is just not easily accessible, but we always get Fimo Clay in our hands. Is that a possible explanation? Blossom is really cute! Both in 2D and 3D :D I really think I renjoy both your finearts, digital art videos but also craft things. Thank you for sharing another great video with us. I hope you'll have a nice week ahead and I'm looking forward to your next video :)

I think with clay it really is a personal preference and what your trying to do. Most of my figurines I would never attempt with Air dry clay. I feel like polymer let's me work the finer details easier and do longer sculptures with more intricate stuff. But air dry is quicker, and great for "simpler" designs. I'm not a fan of FIMO myself, just takes too much work. Even Sculpey can get temperamental, but Sculpey Original is easy to work with, it's like the in between. Hope this helps.

You could of painted the cat then glued on actual yarn. No need for painting! The clay yarn looks freaking awesome though soooo well worth the hassle of painting it.
