Turning and Hollowing an Ornament Globe Woodturning with Sam Angelo

Sam concentrates on turning and hollowing an ornament globe. His approach for turning the globe and attaching it to the top and bottom finials is unique. (A shout-out to Ashley Harwood on this technique).

Very nice looking Sam. That mesquite globe is really great looking. Mesquite has become one of my favorite turning woods

Mesquite globe and holly finials. Wow, a great combination. Terrific color contrast. Nice use of your new hollowing tools too. Nice assist from Cheryle on parting off the globe. Overall an excellent project. Well done Sam. 👍👍 Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and remember, when the wood goes around, the face shield goes down.🙂🙂

Nice catch Cheryle! Great looking ornament Sam! I really like the idea of the dowel to join. Gonna put that to use cause I don't care for always trying to get all the squeeze out cleaned up. The holly makes some nice finials. Take care, Dave

Yes, the Dow is really a great way to go. And I agree it illuminates any kind of squeeze out from the glue. Thanks Dave I hope you’re having fun in your shop. Sam

Nice piece of burl. You mentioned right at the end that there was a reason to not show the turning of the finials. What was the reason? Time? Or the challenge of keeping Holly white? BTW, I purchased a pair of these hollowing tools from Mr. Nicolet at the AAW symposium. They are excellent tools.

My November 1 video was on an ornament and I spent a lot of time turning finials in that video. On the way home back to Montana. I did a hands-on class yesterday at a guys shop. No joking he had a building that was probably 80 x 100 full of wood. I mean Burls logs it was like a forest. Crazy but I didn’t bring any wood home later Sam.
