You should also change the MS170 to a side adjustable bar. Just go buy the parts for a side adjuster for a MS250 and it will swap directly in.

@@KyleHallwoodworker I'm not an expert when it comes to chainsaws ...Its an oregon electric with a 16 inch bar 3/8 pitch drive which I'd like to convert to a smaller bar and chain to do some detailing carvings!.....Is this something I can do or would it be better to invest in another chainsaw?.... Thanks for any advise Kyle.
I have a Stihl MSA60C, want to put an 8” Cannon dime tip carving bar on it do I need to change the sprocket and where to find the chain for the 8” bar

Not sure if you’ll have to change the sprocket. If it’s 1/4 pitch you should be fine . You can try Baileys on line for the 8” or cannons website .
I’ve got a lightly used 170 that I bought new. Strange issue. It pulls over very hard when hot. I Can feel high compression in the pull cord as the piston cycles. Almost like a hydro or vapour lock. It will pull the saw out from beneath my foot when attempting to pull start. Kinda dangerous. I need to pull gently on the pull cord a few times and do a few cycles, before giving the pull cord a good quick yank to fire it up. Only does this hot, when cold it is fine.

Start with simple things , check spark arrestor on muffler , remove it or make sure it’s clean , carb might need to be cleaned, Remove and inspect recoil . Just some ideas I found for this problem on a forum.
