Dad had a cherry that was torn out of the ground by a tornado, it measured 40" at the base, the mill cut it up into 1'x12" board, and we staked it up for five years to allow nature to dry it. He built a beautiful entertainment cabinet, with a fire place in the middle. I got to see it last year, and it's just as beautiful today as it was 30 years ago. My Dad was an anomaly, he was a physician -surgeon, and a master craftsman, how else does one work his way through med school, in the late 40s.

Another great video!! Not sure I have ever seen better Cherry boards ever!! A little side note about your chickens, and a little personal fun I have had with mine. I try and keep 2 or 3 sheets of old plywood around full sheets that are OK to let sit out and get weathered. Once every 2 or 3 days, I go out and lay them out flat on the grassy ground in the sun. Then early that next morning or after a second morning, I will call out the chickens, and they will follow like a puppy dog after they understand the routine. walk them over to the plywood, and lift up one corner of the plywood and flip it off and watch the dozens or hundreds of crickets try and run for their lives. The chickens go crazy. flip them all over until the chickens are full enough they do not run so much for the crickets. Rinse and repeat about every 2 or 3 days. The plywood wont kill the grass if only for a couple or 3 days, and the eggs you get will be super rich, and the egg production will pick up in weight some. But for entertainment value, it is hard to beat!! 👍

I am a strategist and do like the videos where you discuss the logic you have on how you approach cutting a specific log. This Cherry log has been the strangest one I’ve seen on your channel. The initial portions of the log that were cut off during the squaring process look like the outline of a mummy shaped sleeping bag.

You should find a bowl turner nearby for those larger slabs that went on the burn pile. I am just outside Chattanooga. A turner could make a few platters from those if not bowls. I would gladly trade bowls and platters for a supply of offcut slabs you intend to burn. That cherry is gorgeous!
