Turning a bowl on the spring pole lathe with self-forged tools - Real-time / Complete process

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here's the footage from my previous video uploaded for anyone who wants to see the complete process with minimal edits. I only made cuts where nothing happened or I was sharpening my tools. Every single stroke used to turn the bowl from start to finish is included. It took about 20 minutes.
The wood is Jacaranda and you can see how I forged the tools in my previous video.

Very nice progress. Self-forging my tools is still something that I have yet to try! Keep up the good work!

Very interesting seeing you feel your way through the process. I have very little personal experience of using a pole lathe but wonder if a heavier more stable tool rest would be an advantage? I just rewatched one of Yoav Elkayam's pole lathe turning videos and his tool rest is much deeper and appears to be very stable.

I'm not sure what that would achieve but it's an interesting idea. This is Owen Thomas's lathe design, I made it straight from the plans. I do plan to rebuild this lathe with heavier components / hardwood when I get the opportunity. It's all made from quite light softwoods as that's all I had.
