Turning a $250 Garage Ornament Into My Dream Kayak

Спорт

If you've followed me a while you know I'm a sucker for a good deals on old kayaks, and this might have been my best score ever! I shop Facebook Marketplace at least once a week for undervalued canoes and kayaks. I often fix them up and flip them for fun, or hook up someone in my local club at my cost just to keep the good Karma rolling. This time I found a kayak that is going to live on in my personal fleet, and get paddled often.
This week we buy an old kayak, fix it up and take it out for a beautiful fall paddle with my parents. I hope you enjoy the hang! Happy Paddlin.

nice score on the kayak a great price .We have some wilderness system touring kayaks and love them . We love touring lakes like that . another thing by sticking near the edge is you can often sneak up on all the animals snakes and lizards . We snook up on some dingoes the other week

all of my boats have came from market place. Florida is a gold mine for market place boats. Scored a loon120 2 times on the water for 500$ . Got a lightly used feel free avntura 140 for 280$ and most recently bought a pack a yak for 450$. Not to mention i got a hurricane Sojourn 146 for free and all i had to do was drive 3 hours. Great video as always. Nice to see market place boats getting love.

You've GOT to LOVE deals! I recently picked up a Pamlico 100 on Craigslist for $100. The hull ID number indicates it's a 2010 manufacture date. I discovered why they accepted such a low $$ offer , because it smelled like mice! Abandoned mouse nest in the bow, behind the foam bow block. Removed the foam, the bulkhead was already removed being prepped for re-install. Shopvac'd the nest, then filled the boat with soapy water, pressure washed, and scrubbed. It smells like plastic now, not mice. I upgraded the bow rigging, new carry handles, re-sealed the bulkhead, new gasket on the orbix hatch, and new knee pads, The seat padding looked great, I think someone replaced it, at some point. The adjustable foot braces were fine, no problems. Now it looks new. It even came with a PFD and a Bending Branches paddle. Didn't need another recboat......but for $100? Now, we have a "Guest Boat", great for beginners and novices that want to tag along. There are deals out there, just be patient, they pop up pretty regularly.

Lots of great content in this video, Dan. Great to see your parents joining you. Loved the little tour of Whiskeytown Lake (and the story about the lightning storm). I think my wife and I are going to have to plan a trip up there and find an Air B&B or VRBO to hang out for a week to paddle that lake and maybe have you and Sandy Carell show us around. If I had more room in the garage, I'd probably be searching for a rotomold kayak like this to have as a thrasher or guest boat.

I move to Florida a few years ago. Right before COVID. It was had to find even new Kayaks durning COVID. Now Market place is full of used Kayaks. The old school 14,15 ft sea kayaks are 300 and less. I saw a very nice one today for 175. The fishing lawn chair sit on tops are hotter. But even that style is everywhere. The COVID Kayak boom is over. I just bought a 1500 Jackson fishing kayak for 400. The dealers are suffering used is the way to go for consumers.

I recently bought a 23 year old, 15 and a half foot long Dagger Baja in fantastic shape for a whopping $100. I've bought 4 kayaks off marketplace in the last month or so for under $1000, if I had to replace them all with current models I would have to spend close to $6k. Winter is around the corner and I imagine the prices will fall even more as the demand goes down.

Oh wow - what a deal!! So nice to see the trip playing with it and getting used to it. Super cool both your parents enjoy it too. My father does, but my mother had no interest. Bit of a long-shot question; do you know any possible exercises or physio therapy that might help recover a tendinitis issue? In late July, I just woke up one morning and had pain in my right wrist and thumb (joys of being almost 50 I guess - you can injure yourself in your sleep). Doctor had me put on a brace and that ended my paddling for the year, but it's been months now and it's not really any better. Ever run into something like that?

That is the boat. One of the worst designs I've ever tried. Without a rudder its near impossible to go straight. Same with all their poly boats honestly. I brought them in for one season of the shop and then closed them all out. Don't let that boat ruin paddling for you. Sell it and buy something with better performance.

I picked one up used at a Kayak store this summer for $150. I enjoyed it so much that I started using it often. Lendal saw me using it and asked if they could send out an updated model for me to try. So not working for them just really enjoy how this paddle feels. If you’re shopping Werner you owe it to yourself to try Lendal. In my opinion it’s better in every way. Ergonomics, blade shape, the way the foil move through the water. I was actually pretty mind blown when I got it.

Dang, I just bought a Werner Kalliste. I love it. It was a nice upgrade from my aqua bound tango. Now you’re telling me I have to add another paddle to my Christmas list. Not sure my wife of 45 years is going to agree. Congrats to your parents on 46 years together. Love your videos. You’ve been a huge influence on my two years of paddling going back to your video of best kayaks for $300. After buying a pelican following your advice I now have a Dagger axis, Delta 1210 and a Eddyline fathom(bought off Facebook). This old guy got bit. Keep up the good work. My condolences on the loss of your friend. Glad to hear you’re getting help dealing with the loss.
