Nice work, that particular board is an 868-22, which is known to be very prone to "popcorning" where the board layers come apart.

@@ConsoleKingRepair I have an 868-22 in my CECHA12 (Hong Kong), I'm guessing they were pretty much identical to the CECHA00. BTW, what would happen if you installed a 40nm on a CECHA that's on a low firmware (say 2.70 for example), I'm sure it won't work but is there anything you can do? I ask because I have no idea when last my CECHA was updated before it YLOD'ed (bought it last month with YLOD already, errlog says it's a 3034 so dead RSX), and I don't know of any way of checking what firmware it's on without booting it up (which it obviously can't do). I just hope it died after 2011 and the previous owner updated it regularly!

Thanks for the great step by step video. I have a few fat PS3 I got from garage sales with YLOD. I got 3 of them fixed using the heat gun going in circles through the board for a few minutes each section. Was told the proper way would be to use a multimeter to find where the fault is and either fix the solder joint or replace the bad chip. I do like your oven baking method. Need to go look for a cheap toaster oven at a thrift shop to use just for this.
@SINftare

Он делает не запекание и прогрев как вы, а сушит плату от влаги, перед снятием RSX и высокими температурами. Чтобы плата не сделала эффект попкорна, что часто происходит при таком моде Френки. И сам чип тоже дует.
Nice work as always sir

The polishing process is exactly the same as some processes in auto detailing. You may get better results using a DA polisher, and following the compound with a polish (meguiars makes one). I wonder if something like a ceramic coat (used on cars) would help to protect or enhance the gloss? But tbh I'm really impressed with the finish you achieved, nice work.

thanks for your work man, if you got a free time and would like to experience new thing is to reball the 90nm rsx and put it back on board. if the 90 has good reading it should last same as the 40 and 65. some people who have a very good experience trying this said it lasted years. the problem is just bga connection.
Clean work, well done. Though it'd be nice to see how you got the 40nm chip compatible with the old rig. IIRC there should be a small work to be done there as well.

Great video of my favorite console. I read that 65 nm can support CFW, while 40 nm cannot. Do you use 65 nm dies as well. Have you ever used 28 nm in your GPU swap. Have you also tried liquid metal on the dies? I know PS3 is not designed for LM application though. Will be watching your video library.

What type cooling fan do you suggest to keep temps low from your experience? 15 baldes or 19? I have 15 & 19 blades, from my test the 15 blades pushes more air from the right side and 19 blades more from the back side. Also 19 is more quiter at higher speeds.
