A stand with a built in fan, magnetic holder and a very easy USB c plug mechanism for removing the phone. I think it's way more than a stand. It is expensive.

No, this has USB C DP Out, so it is a fully featured dock. You just need a USB C display.

Tip for anyone who wants to use a mouse on the iPhone on an external monitor: keep the phone in landscape mode and map an extra mouse button to “portrait lock”. iOS isn’t smart enough to reorient the mouse based on content, so when your on the homescreen just lock rotation and it works properly

It sucks that Samsung's OS is the only one which will give you an actual desktop experience with Dex. Other Android phones will have a very basic desktop or will just clone the screen like iOS does...

Motorola Ready For is in many ways better than DeX. It will give you the option to choose between Streaming, Gaming, Desktop or Screen mirroring. Moto Ready For also natively supports 4k60 without the need to download any ancillary apps to support it, like you do on Samsung through Good Lock.

I use Dex everyday and I wish I had more experience with the Moto Ready. It sounds nice. Dex is cool and useful but very limiting. It clearly is not being used by that many people and Samsung doesn't care to add new features or improve it anymore. Wish that would change. It needs so much more.

I'd like to see some tests about its cooling ability when running emulators or games after a while. To see if will throttle while docked

No good for me as Google still hasn't enabled DisplayPort over USB C on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro :/ 8th version of its phone and still living in 2016.

Slightly off 😸topic, The Logitech G Cloud had a recent firmware update enabling usb-c to HDMI output. And now I'm looking for a Nintendo switch type dock that can charge the G Cloud and send the HDMI signal to my TV. Any suggestions? On a side note, I also have some NREAL Air augmented reality glasses and can confirm that you can plug it directly to the G Cloud without the adapter just like you can on the steam deck.

It would be nice to see Moto Edge 2022 or 2023 Ready For be used in this manner. Ready For is in many ways better than DeX.

Finally we can put to work all those monitors with usb-c video in we have laying around!

a good alternate for this is a 3rd party switch dock. probably a lot cheaper too

It’s an interesting product, not sure it’s for me though. Keep up the reviews though. Always nice to see something different from the norm.

Built-in cooling fan? Is it just like the kind of fans the razor fan has where it's frosty cold? Or is it just a fan of blows air because I'm very interested with any device that can support a fan for your phone while docked and it's very rare to find anything that uses cooling fans for Androids most of the games I play on Android heat up the phone

I never leave comments on vids, but I've had the dock for about a year and have done a lot of testing with it. It is a basic fan .5 w fan that blows air through the front facing vent (where the phone connects). It is not like the newer "semi-conductor" phone coolers which have "refrigeration cooling" and does not get ice cold. The dock fan only turns on when the dock detects that the heat on the physical dock has reached a certain threshold (I'm talking super hot), as there is a thermocouple inside the dock that triggers the fan (there is no onboard pcb that receives temperature readings from the phone). From a cooling perspective, you would want the fan to be on at all times to prevent your phone getting exceptionally hot and modern phone games, app streaming and can get a phone hot in minutes depending on the workload. Ultimately this product would be great if the fan cooling was not passive. While the design is very sleek and modular, the main selling point of this dock is a built-in fan. I do think this product falls short in the cooling aspect. Hope this helps. I'm a big moto fan and got this dock second hand for very cheap.

Its a decently adjustible little dock. Its a shame that it is passive .. just passthrough - except for the cooling.

With better software support, Dex would be my daily. One device that truly does it all. For me, I'd need Davinci Resolve and Reaper.

I prefer Android desktop mode over iPhone desktop mode or cast mirroring

I like my g100 snapdragon 870 headphone jack sd card. Replaced my S10e. This stand was made for this kind of phone. I don't have one but I'm tempted. Should I go for it?

Genshin having "Official" Controller Support on iOS is the desire for me wanting to get a new iPhone. But yeah, I do like this dock but the Baseus that I have is what I'm still running on. But that cooling fan attached to it is one thing that makes me quite tempted for it. Now it makes me wonder what's the CHEAPEST mobile phone now that has a "Desktop" Mode built in.

Galaxy S8. Now you can pick one for like peanuts, and still got the dex if that's all you want. If battery is still worrying for you, get the S8 Active for a bit more.

buy a steam deck dock with fans and a usb hub instead, theyre the same size as phones and they can keep the phone cool while gaming on the big screen

Now why do we need the stand? Can't have the cable going directly from the phone to the monitor? Also, can it charge the phone while on the stand?

I like what Motorola/Lenovo is doing here, but I prefer a nicer metal stand and use the USB-C video input with PD directly from the monitor. This glorified stand needed to be a sort of hub to provide some added value.

Most USB-C monitors will have built-in USB hubs already which this would tap into. This just gives you a convenient way to mount the phone and cool it.

Problem I run into with Dex is when I use a BT Controller is the controller only works on the Phone Display and not the Dex session. Anyone know how to remedy this?

Just a note “if you have usb c it will work” isn’t correct: a relatively small amount of usb c mobile devices actually support video out. Try ( maybe not without that specific dock lol) the 10” Fire Tablet, it’ll go in a panic about water in the usb connector. Aside from supporting the specific feature, lots of devices are actually just usb 2 with an usb c connector, and video out is usb 3.

Okay that’s great…but we’re just waiting on the Lenovo Legion Go embargo to be lifted. We want to see yer review!!!

When I bought my Moto G100 this stand was sold with the phone. Then Motorola started charging extra & now I can't even find my phone on their website 😞 Works great with a portable monitor

If im not mistaken, the iphone 15 and 15 Plus have USB C 2.0 which doesnt carry a video signal. Only the Pro and Pro Max got 3.0

I gotta admit...I do not understand this product...It's $60 on Amazon right now and does what I can do with a $30 Usb C dongle...except the dongle can support displayport and HDMI, gives you multiple usb type A ports, as well as ethernet jack(s) and usually SD and/or MicroSD card reader...is double the price really worth...a fan?

I'm old enough to remember the 30 pin connector Apple used on iPods and the first few generations of iPhones. I think it was the iPhone 5 that switched to Lightning. At the time lots of people were angry that all their accessories, docks primarily, would no longer be able to be upcycled to their next iPhone. They say that history doesn't repeat; but, it often rhymes.

Nope google pixels dont have the hardware to do it . But the pixel 8 does but they have it disabled probably until their desktop mode is ready to launch which may not launch until android 15 .

I'm really starting to lose interest in ETA's videos because so many just feel like obvious commercials now.

Samsung should open source Dex. I’m really disappointed in the progress that’s been made on it since it was introduced. Should be much better by now with the horsepower phones have now.

I have two observations/questions: 1) Why didn't you test a Moto Edge with this Moto dock? I'm not saying you should've went out and bought a new Edge '23 - although it's certainly a great 8G2 powered value flagship with software that combines the best of Pixel and OneUI - but you've tested other Moto Edges on this channel. Do you not have the Edge X30 laying around anymore from your last ReadyFor videos? 2) Why do you use the free "Blue" logo version of PPSSPP in all of your videos? It's just something I've been wondering for a while. PPSSPP Gold only costs $5 and helps show some love to the developer.

FINNALY emulation! has he been emulating in vids earlier then this? I remember in the years old ones….

What one to get for a tablet. Fit any size tablet as it is large in size. Maybe fit the phone as well. Wonder why they didn't put PC mode in the android OS itself. Samsung is hogging the tech. Samsung seem to get hot and loose battery life after a year. The phones i had at least. maybe bad luck. Those where dated models, starting 10 years ago. I bring it with me everywhere, work and places. Different environment.

So we can do this without the stand. Just to be clear.

I wish google would enable video through USB C on the Pixel 7...i hate their chromecast stuff.

Just imagine if pros had only one device in their pocket and plugin to work on a desktop mode... That can be real, some tried like Microsoft or Samsung. BUT it would kill all the desktop and laptop PC market and there's a lot of money in that game. So HP, Lenovo and others even Apple can't do that. Just imagine...

It's not mirroring an S23, it lets you use DeX. It also has a cooling fan.

No, the device will ask you to restart the app to run it on the other screen. You can only have one instance of the app open at a time.

My final thoughts: You clearly skipped any in-depth gaming videos on the S23 - which ought to be a 23Ultra for fair comparison to the ProMax. DEX has been around for YEARS. They were/are one of the early leaders in using your phone as a desktop system. Dex will also run wirelessly. You really do need to compare 'apples to apples' in such a video. Besides - Apple owners will only plug their Apple devices into an 'Apple approved' device which must cost two to three times the cost of this Motorola product.

not sure why you'd recommend this when there are tons of better and probably cheaper options out there with HDMI output, if the monitor doesnt support PD charging you'll have to add an adapter and more cabling to charge the phone at the same time, I couldnt recommend this at all.

My initial intrigue quickly turned to a yawn. There is nothing special about this and I can choose from any alternative docks with power passthrough that will also have additional I/O and for a much lower price. It seems like paying for a brand name than an innovative product.

Nothing new. I done this BACK IN 2013 with a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Micro USB to HDMI cable and a bluetooth controller\keyboard 😎 That shown in the video is essentially the same thing, only done 10 years later with 2023 technology.
