Turn, Turn, Turn Lesson - The Byrds - Part 1
Музыка
Roger McGuinn is an amazing player and plays this tune mostly with banjo rolls. This version incorporates some simple hybrid picking, but is mostly designed to simulate the sound that Roger gets, not show exactly how he does it! Part 1 includes a play-through and the intro, Part 2 includes the remainder of the rhythm and part 3 covers the solo. Thanks for watching!

This was one of the songs that inspired me to learn how to play the guitar. I have purchased several music books and viewed numerous performances of this song in order to learn how to play it efficiently. None of these tutorials compare to the sound and instruction you have provided in this video series. This rendition of Turn, Turn, Turn is by far the best I have heard. Your up tempo play, attention to detail and the synthesizing of various chords, notes, strings and strum techniques are phenomenal. Although there is only one Roger McGuinn, this version complements his and quite possibly enhances it. Thank you very much for your meticulous efforts and devotion in performing this song and to your contribution to the preservation of the history of classic American music!
Good job...The Byrds would be proud of you. 🎤🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸🥁 Thank you for sharing.
Nice! What an amazing, timeless song. Well demonstrated, sir.
The Byrds FOREVERMORE 🎼🎤🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
One thing I will say regards the playing of Crosby.... he was a genius at rhythm guitar when you listen to him play.... McGuinn though, influenced a whole generation of future players, 80s indie music owe a lot to McGuinn's style of playing... hell so does my own stuff.
Beautiful sound and beautifully played 👍👍👍👍❤️
The byrds ..one of the most underappreciated most influential bands in american ...rock history... Imo roger mcguinn='s genius.
Thanks! Needed a good lesson ! Sweet lesson!!
Really enjoyed that.
Great sounding guitar.
Although it has the look of a Roger McGuinn 370 signature, it is in fact a 360 from 2002 which a previous owner modified, adding the middle pickup, the compressor dial, etc. What's interesting is that McGuinn's original 370 was just that - a 360 that he sent back to Rickenbacker to have modified!
Excellent tutorial...Thanks
You are playing it the way Roger does and that is the way to get the true sound! I don't have the comfort level with metal finger picks to do that. More power to you! The Ric is actually a 360 that was modified by a previous owner to look like a 370. He did a pretty good job!
It just occurred to me! Many of the 'refrains' are the same as "Mr. Tambourine Man"...! (you'd think after all these decades I would've made the connection sooner! )
Nice. Been looking for a single pick version. Got thin nails and hate clunky finger-picks
NICE!!!
Banjo rolls are done with thumb and fingers, and with a thumb pick. McGuinn played his 12 string parts with hybrid picking only. He shows how in several tutorials shot over the years.
Sounds great.How do I find part 2?
Perfect..
Yeah,I learned on a Hagstrom electric 12 when I was just a kid right after Tambourine man cameout. I been playing for almost 48 years now and I also play the 5 string banjo so thats where i learned the banjo rolls.
Great mate! Followed it on mu Les Paul
Is your guitar tuned like Roger McGuinn recommends in his 12 string DVD?
greta and simply explained
Yep. I can't speak about every 12-string out there, but I can tell you that the nut slots on a Ric are cut in such a way that you cannot string it differently and that the only other 12-string electric I have has the opposite stringing and nut slots to match.
Can you do a good version of 8 miles high???
I wish someone explain how to play the rythm specially the way Gene Clark plays it with Roger in some youtube videos.
cool
Did Pete collect royalties on that song? I failed miserably at trying to do the proper Rodger style... he does a thing like Elizabeth Cotton on the Rick... or like Ma Carter... I just gave up trying to do fingerstyle and went back to a medium pick... stupid fingers!

I understand that frustration! Obviously, I was no where near they way he did it (didn't help that the Ric 12 string neck is way too narrow for my fingers). Roger started as banjo player, so this stuff came more naturally to him.
Can you do 8 miles high?
I play this song using a flat pick and finger picks on my 3rd and 4th fingers which really gives you a much cleaner and clearer sound. The picks do take some practice and some getting used to having them on your fingers though. Anyway, everybody plays it their own way. Whatever turns your crank huh? Nice Ric!
what kind of guitar?
I am using a 12-strings pedal simulator (Mosaic) on a 6 strings guitar, but the notes wouldn't match on the ones on the video... Could you help me? 😢

I guess he can't.
Pete Took it out of the Bible
? You can string it any way you please I always string thick above thin Doesn't eveyrbody?
That's a 12 string guitar right?
00:03:11
Ric's are strung opposite of most 12 strings
Actually 3 guitars, as Roger plays the 12 string on another track under the lead solo....
You can own the Ric and look the part, but if you don't learn to fingerpick, it won't sound right.
You have to really wonder how much crosby actually played on the recording

I believe Mcguinn is the only one on the recording. The rest is the Wrecking Crew in LA. The vocals were done by the band.

@@DennisVernier No that was Tambourine Man. No Wrecking Crew on this.
You basically nailed it. The d and a chord are travis picked. You also correctly did not bar the Bmin chord rite on!!!
WIsh all 12-strings had the thick string above the thin like a Ric..

Spend the 20.00 and have a new nut fitted. They have bone on ebay, amazon, ect to match your neck width, and any decent luther can fit it in,and adjust it all,set up,and in couple days, you'll have a new guitar. Make sure to keep old nut,in case your not wild about it.

I'm not sure it really makes that much of a noticeable difference. Have played 12 strings for years, acoustic and electric.
You are close
Sadly this song can not played with strumming, you will need finger picks or else this song falls apart. Night Rick Guitar man just awesome sound there is no other like it.
So as I now understand the birds had little to do with this song. It was mostly done by "the wrecking crew" from LA.

That's not correct. In terms of Byrds recordings, the Wrecking Crew only played on Mr Tambourine Man and its flip side, and even on those, McGuinn still played the 12 string.

@@tomlicameli5399 Correct, as far as I am able to learn.

"Originally written"? Like there's a way someone can take that same song and write it from scratch all over again?
Finger picking sounds just better.....
I thought you were wearing lederhosen at first glance...

Do you realize you said the word "uh" 15 times in the first 60 seconds?
I feel that learning a song through books and hearing could be more better. That would evolve one's pursue for adventure to desire of music and playing it. Being lazy and searching on the internet is in my terms just plain too easy. It might provide good explanation and breakdown, but people need to be more self reliant on theirselves, not on the internet. Sorry this comment has nothing to do with this video.

I'm glad we have the internet for this stuff. I'm 72 and grew up learning parts by speeding up and slowing down records. You may call it lazy watching videos but I think it's a vast improvement. My thoughts.
