Turn, Turn, Turn Lesson - The Byrds - Part 1

Музыка

Roger McGuinn is an amazing player and plays this tune mostly with banjo rolls. This version incorporates some simple hybrid picking, but is mostly designed to simulate the sound that Roger gets, not show exactly how he does it! Part 1 includes a play-through and the intro, Part 2 includes the remainder of the rhythm and part 3 covers the solo. Thanks for watching!

This was one of the songs that inspired me to learn how to play the guitar. I have purchased several music books and viewed numerous performances of this song in order to learn how to play it efficiently. None of these tutorials compare to the sound and instruction you have provided in this video series. This rendition of Turn, Turn, Turn is by far the best I have heard. Your up tempo play, attention to detail and the synthesizing of various chords, notes, strings and strum techniques are phenomenal. Although there is only one Roger McGuinn, this version complements his and quite possibly enhances it. Thank you very much for your meticulous efforts and devotion in performing this song and to your contribution to the preservation of the history of classic American music!

One thing I will say regards the playing of Crosby.... he was a genius at rhythm guitar when you listen to him play.... McGuinn though, influenced a whole generation of future players, 80s indie music owe a lot to McGuinn's style of playing... hell so does my own stuff.

Although it has the look of a Roger McGuinn 370 signature, it is in fact a 360 from 2002 which a previous owner modified, adding the middle pickup, the compressor dial, etc. What's interesting is that McGuinn's original 370 was just that - a 360 that he sent back to Rickenbacker to have modified!

You are playing it the way Roger does and that is the way to get the true sound! I don't have the comfort level with metal finger picks to do that. More power to you! The Ric is actually a 360 that was modified by a previous owner to look like a 370. He did a pretty good job!

Banjo rolls are done with thumb and fingers, and with a thumb pick. McGuinn played his 12 string parts with hybrid picking only. He shows how in several tutorials shot over the years.

Yep. I can't speak about every 12-string out there, but I can tell you that the nut slots on a Ric are cut in such a way that you cannot string it differently and that the only other 12-string electric I have has the opposite stringing and nut slots to match.

Did Pete collect royalties on that song? I failed miserably at trying to do the proper Rodger style... he does a thing like Elizabeth Cotton on the Rick... or like Ma Carter... I just gave up trying to do fingerstyle and went back to a medium pick... stupid fingers!

I understand that frustration! Obviously, I was no where near they way he did it (didn't help that the Ric 12 string neck is way too narrow for my fingers). Roger started as banjo player, so this stuff came more naturally to him.

I play this song using a flat pick and finger picks on my 3rd and 4th fingers which really gives you a much cleaner and clearer sound. The picks do take some practice and some getting used to having them on your fingers though. Anyway, everybody plays it their own way. Whatever turns your crank huh? Nice Ric!

Spend the 20.00 and have a new nut fitted. They have bone on ebay, amazon, ect to match your neck width, and any decent luther can fit it in,and adjust it all,set up,and in couple days, you'll have a new guitar. Make sure to keep old nut,in case your not wild about it.

I feel that learning a song through books and hearing could be more better. That would evolve one's pursue for adventure to desire of music and playing it. Being lazy and searching on the internet is in my terms just plain too easy. It might provide good explanation and breakdown, but people need to be more self reliant on theirselves, not on the internet. Sorry this comment has nothing to do with this video.
