I also think, even If I would wanna fool somebody, gold coins are plain mostly, or have company logo on them, so a coin number maybe wouldn't work

I'm surprised you managed to make that panny look this good - I've done this experiment dozens of times turing a few chemistry expositions (we use a flame torch though) and we've found that unless coins were quite clean and free of tarnish, the resulting brass coat was inhomogeneous and lacked shine. As such we started using pre-cleaned or even newly-made pennies to make them look better. Your final penny looks pretty good though.

I use tongs because it's hot when i comes out of the boiling solution or off the hotplate. once it's cold it can be held safely.

Just use a silver and gold sharpie. ;)

hey in that copper sulfate battery video the zinc sulfate you made seemed to be in liquid form. is that going to be a problem because in this video it seems to be a white powder that you mix with water. Can I make the zinc sulfate in the way that you did in the other video and then just heat that up or do I need to find it in powder form?

How durable is the plating? If I had a bag full of these (for game coins) would they wear down quickly?

Hey I do not know if you check comments or would even know the answer to this but... I am looking to make a Penny resin table and would like to know if this would last if covered in the resin or if the layer will still wear off

Question; this is basically plating the copper in zinc right, then heating it to diffuse the zinc into the copper making brass. So my question is after the 10 minutes or so once the copper is plated with the zinc, would leaving it in longer create a thicker plating and a longer lasting brass finish? Or since the copper is coated with the zinc, is it as thick as it is going to get? I ask because I have some copper "Zombie Walker" coins for magic tricks and I would love them to have a golden finish.

I'm having trouble finding what temperatures hot plates can go to. Can you recommend an electric hot plate for this? (If electronic hot plates can indeed reach these temperatures?)

Hey NurdRage, my chemistry teacher carries Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate [ Zn(No3)2 . 6H2O ] Could I use this instead of Zinc Sulfate since both are soluble? (At least I think?) However then would I change the 30 grams in order to make a 2 Molar solution before a boil it? (I think the video looks like a roughly 2M, but does that matter either?) Thanks a lot!!!
