Turn a Wooden Flashlight on the Lathe | Beginning Woodturning

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I show you how to make wooden flashlights that are turned on the wood lathe. You only need to know some simple wood turning techniques. This is a great project for a beginner woodturner and is considered spindle work. I used a Jet Mini Lathe which is great for smaller turning projects. I used a roughing gouge, a spindle gouge, a parting tool and wood burner wire.
I used a puck light or tap light (LED battery-powered) and attached it to the finished flashlight with a screw. You press the puck light to turn it on and off. It uses AAA batteries.
The woods I used were maple and angelique. These are wonderful hardwoods and fun to turn on the lathe. The wood is durable and should last for a long time.
These lights work great around the house. Make great projects to sale at craft shows. It's a wonderful weekend craft project anyone can make. If you're just beginning woodturning, this is a great project to try.

Hey buddy my name is Chuck and I was wondering what are you doing about the centre as far as hollowing it out. What is your method? I hold a utility patent on a type of flash light and would definitely like to talk to you sometime if possible.

Thanks for the question. I'm not sure that you've watched the video all the way through. I don't do any hollowing for this flashlight. I simply attach a push-button style light, like you place under a cabinet. I like to keep it simple. thanks for watching.
