In this lesson, we look at the classic fiddle tune, “Turkey in the Straw” which uses AA-BB form. Almost everyone is familiar with this melody which makes it easier to connect the melody to the fingerings on the guitar. It’s also a great beginner tune because it makes use of a few basic guitar techniques including slides and ascending and descending lines. In this 3 part video, we’ll break down each note of both the A and B parts of the melody in detail. We also look at the rhythm part so you can learn the chord structure and a few bluegrass runs for moving between chords.

Thank you, Brandon. What an excellent lesson. The tune has to be, the most catchy and infectious melody ever.
Thanks Brandon...you made this very easy to learn.
Wow I've just found this amazing tutorial.
Thank you sir!

Very good tutorial Brandon. Thanks! However, I must correct you on one little detail. The third note of the fourth measure should not appear in your tabulature as a 16th note (the D note played on the second string). It should be presented as an 8th note in your 4/4 timing tabulature. Also, the slide between the 3rd and 4th fret on the the 3rd string in the beginning of the 4th measure should be presented as a 32nd note slide. Also, it might be preferred to present all tabulature in 2/4 time rather than in 4/4 time. Otherwise supergreat job! Thanks! Best regards Gus. Former bluegrass college student in Texas.
Oh Danny boy Ireland tab and amazing grace tab thanks in advance

Just a thought but do most beginners really need to play this at 90 and 100BPM? Kinda takes the wind out the sails for ol beginners like me. Jus sayin

I would try to do it PERFECTLY at 50 or 60, but PERFECTLY. Then add speed. You cannot start with speed and then add accuracy. That dog won’t hunt.
