Bob Ross No it's not. It's presenting turkey's propaganda as facts without any critical thinking. Greece is not trying to limit Turkey's rights what so ever. Demilitarisation of Greek islands is a totaly differant subject and Turkey only uses it to force Greece into a weak position in order to impose its will by means of threats of invasion as they did in 1974 in the demilitarised island of Cyprus. Lots of Greek islands are not concerned by the treaty of Lausanne because they where greek before or became greek after. Kastellorizo was Italian till 1945 and nothing prevents Greece from defending it with its armed forces. The turkish claim that all the aegean islands should be demilitarised is laughable.

@@zorro-hq6qp Greece did not invade Cyprus though. In the 1970s, Cyprus made a democratic option to unify with Greece and the Turks were in the minority. Turkey did not like that and unilaterally invaded Cyprus. Only after Turkey sent troops did Greece replicate. This invasion was a breach in international law, and a breach of the Lausanne treaty. The moment Turkey invaded a third party, Greece no longer had an obligation to demilitarize the Aegean Islands. Like it or not, Northern Cyprus is recognized by one single country in the entire world while Greek Cyprus is recognized by the entire world. So rather than telling lies about what really happened, how about Turkey for once walks like it talks? Erdogan always blabs about respecting international law, but there are UN resolution that called for the Turkish army to leave Northern Cyprus and to allow the country unite back again. Based on the UN resolitions, only the 1st invasion of Cyprus was counted as somewhat legal. But that only captured 3% of the island. The second invasion, which happened after the Greek military Junta collapsed, was labeled unanimously as illegal by the UN Security Council and it is labeled internationally as an invasion (Resolution 353 & 360)

I like how you mentioned the arrangement for India and Sri Lanka and how they settle for a median. I'm from the South Indian state of Kerala and we regularly hear news of how Sri Lankan fishermen are caught by the Indian coast guard and vice versa because they might be in the wrong zone, and this just makes me think how artificial all these borders are. Here you have ancient fishing communities who are restricted by international treaties they've never seen or participated in and having to spend nights in jail for being on the wrong side of the _water_ ....

They have to be enforced because otherwise whoever has the largest fishing fleet gets all the fish. In the case of India/Sri Lanka it's a far bigger problem for Sri Lanka since India has a bigger fleet. Unfortunately before regulation became stronger, the area between Sri Lanka and India became badly overfished and now it's tough for everyone. The only way to bring fishing back is to simply end fishing for a while. =/ The biggest offender is China, which has a habit of sending its fleets across the entire planet into EEZs of countries too poor to defend them.

Yes, but the so called "Greek" map it is not a map that Greece has created or anything. it is a map made by the Geneva University for the EU in the past based on the international laws and not by Greece. Greece's point of view is that as long as we haven't signed any treatment between us about the EEZ, you don't have the right to make researches in that area where my islands are. On the other hand, the Turkish "Blue Homeland" map is an official map made by Turkey and includes also half of the Aegean Sea. Yes half of the Greek islands are included on this map. This is is the real reason why Greece is willing to spend (once again) more money for warplanes and warships than any exploration of gas may give in the future. It is the sovereignty of the Greek islands we care about and not that @!#@ gas. And this gas exploration it is just "happened" to start now, while a lot of stuff going on with Turkey's behavior lately and it's worsening relationships with USA and EU and even bringing a war close to Russia this time.

And both our governments are eager to show each other as public enemies, it works for their advantage. But I hope in the future people and with that, governments will get trough all this conflict and go for a fresh, friendly approach to each other. @@johanlassen6448 Please consider the following. Just because someone presents a situation that you don't like, it doesn't automatically make them biased. Which law does Turkey violate? Are you, by any chance, refering to the treaty which Turkey didn't sign? Here's some exposition, if you don't sign an agreement, it means you didn't agree to its terms, which means you are not legally bound by it. Even then, the same agreement says each situation should be handled specifically and a just distribution should be made. This is no agreement, this is an attempt to use "international law" to rob an enemy country of its rightful borders. Basically, it is how wars work in the democratic world of 2020's. Please be honest. Have you seen how little the area Greece's claims leave for Turkey? Imagine if that was France or Germany in Turkey's place, would you still say that country deserved that tiny excuse for a sea? Or are you picking sides because Turkey is a "barbaric enemy country" for you?

@@truthseeker4931 do you really think because of one single island, greece should have such a vast economic zone over the mediterannean? The EEZ that turkey claims as its own isnt a thing which is made up. That border has been referenced and defined multiple times in history like 1913 london agreement, 1923 lozan agreement etc. By that logic, should spain EEZ reach all the way to the morrocan coast because they have a few islands and cities there? No, it shouldnt. Morroco and spains EEZ equally distributes the sea of gibraltar while economic rights of spanish cities and little islands are limited to their territorial waters. Turkey says that it should have the EEZ that he claims because that territory is 200 nautical miles away from his coast. While also claiming that the greek kastelorizo island's economic rights should be limited to its territorial waters. Which is completley fair and making sense. Greece says it should have all the EEZ he claims over the medditranean because of a single island near the coast of turkey, far away from greece. So tell me, who is the logical one here?

regarding demilitarization of Greek Islands, dodecanese are not covered by the Lausanne treaty but from Paris treaty on which Turkey did not participate. According to international law a country that does not participate to a treaty cannot protest for breach of terms. Futhermore according to article 51 of UN a country has the right to self defense (above all treaties), and this article comes in force from the moment Turkey violates Greek EEZ as defined by UN (you mention this on your Video) plus the Mavi Vatan plan that turkey officially presents. It also comes in force from the Casus Beli that turkish government has declared if Greece expands waters to 12 nm as is its legal right. Regarding Turkish/Libya agreement is not recognised by any international authority because is a deal between a country (Turkey) and a ...person ( Saratz). This deal has never passed for voting from the Libyan parliament and therefore is illegal and does not represent or bind Libya, unlike the Greek/ Egypt agreement that has been approved from noth parliaments. So in case of Turkey, Israel or US etc not signing UNCLOS previous UN sea law convention is binding for those countries and according to that convention both Turkey and Greece signed Turkey can declare 200 nmiles EEZ while literally ignoring islands as that convention is giving mainland more weight compared to islands. So Turkey's claims aren't illegal at all rather they are the legal claims in current situation especially if we consider how Greece is trying to use Meis island to completely butcher Turkish EEZ (Why claimed Greek EEZ has W shape around Turkey) while it is only 1.9 km away from Turkey and 550 km away from Athens and there are only 300 people living on it!! It is so extremely small a magnifying glass is needed to see it even then it could steal the rights of 80 million people only according to Greece ofc...

Now there’s an issue that can’t be resolved... it seems to be an unattainable dream. Sorry, but the Ottoman Empire is gone. And if they (the islands) truly belonged to Turkey, after a relatively brief two hundred to four hundred years, why didn’t Ataturk just keep on going after he destroyed Smyrna? Those islands, geographically, politically, and demographically are Greek and have been for thousands and thousands of years.

You guys need to refresh your history knowledge. Those twelve islands - which are given to Italians after 1911-1912 Italian - Turkish war. Ottomans lost this war because the 1st Balkan War started. Whatever, Ottomans and Italians signed and agreement. Which Italians call Trattato di Losanna and Turks call it Ouchy in order to avoid confusion with Lousanne Treaty. According to this agreement, Italy accepted to give those Islands back to the Ottomans. But they never did that. After losing WW2, Italy gave those islands to the greece in 1947. So those Islands become greek 9 years after death of Atatürk. Its because you lived there for a long time doesnt make it yours. I am sorry, Byzantine Empire is gone as well. The borders of the countries are being determined by the agreements. So yeah, they are yours... For now :) :)

There are a handful of counties that have NOT signed UN law of the sea, Turkey being one of these.
