what are some of the things that were 100 percent right? I am new to turbotax. Have you used turbotax? which version? how long have you been using them?

If you've done short term equity trading, you have to pay $90 for federal filing and additional $50 for state filing. It is not free. Even if you don't do short term equity trading I think there is still a $17-18 transaction fee for each federal and state filing.

Been doing my taxes with TurboTax for years. No issues 😊. I itemize and will continue to do this.

which version do you use of Turbotax? the Premier? Delux or regular Turbotax? Do you have stock dividends and capital gains to contend with or self-employment or a business to sort out? I am fairly new to Turbotax and find it very overwhelming. I am also fairly new to needing to file since I have been getting dividends and capital gains from stock investments.

I have used FreeTaxUSA since 2013. Affordable and I have never had an issue.

do you have to report 1099-Int or the capital gains for stock investments? Or do you have self-employed income?

@@manp1039 Yes, I have multiple 1099s (Int and div - for the div's I have 4 taxed mutual fund accts and a Schwab brokerage acct with multiple individual stocks and ETFs in it.). Very easy, just plug in what the system asks for. Not financial advice, just my opinion after several years of use...

@@__dk__ How many years have you been using them? do they take care of efiling your taxes? Does that service also work for state tax report filing? Have you used it to file a state return? how much did that cost you?

@@manp1039 I've used them since 2013. The platform efiles the fed and the state. The state filing is not free, I forgot the cost, but it wasn't much, 10-13 dollars if I remember correctly.

@@__dk__ do they save your prior year's tax data and docs to assist you in filing the next year's data for carrying over the necessary info from the prior year?

If you have Form 7202 while filing in Turbotax you wont be able to e-file it, you have to filed by mail

What is the best way to file taxes when utilizing multiple brokerage accounts?

If you have sold a lot of stocks during the year, it's going to take a lot of data entry regardless of what you use. If you have several brokerage accounts but haven't sold anything, it's pretty easy to enter just dividends. To answer your question, I don't think it matters which software. i received unemployment payments in 2020, then i received letter from LWF that i was not eligible for that and i have to repay all the amount you got in 2020...so i mailed check in 2021 to them of complete amount...now i wanna ask i got the unemployment and and paid full amount....so what i should do in tax return? 1) do i need to give my 1099G( unemployment amount) to tax preprayer to that this employment i got in 2020 2) do i get any credit or benefit since i paid all amount at once please guie me thank you

I am sorry but I don't know what the process is for repaid unemployment. Generally, if you get a form, to should report it though.

I think that unemployment will give you a new amended 1099 to show the change? and once you have that, if you had already filed you can get your return amended. Another option is to file as if you got it. then later, once you get the amended 1099 for your unemployment dept, then you can go back and file an amended return. But from what i understnand the tax date has been moved to May 17, 2021 as of now. But in either case you can mention situation to the tax preparer and discuss your options?? Are you using turbotax or turbotax full service?

Can u use the most recent version for past taxes?

If you want to do a past year, you have to use software that matches that year because the tax laws are different every year. I don't know what turbotax offers for previous years. You may have to get downloadable software.

There seems to be a lot of problems downloading TT 2020 Deluxe on Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.1. I have a MacBook Air. What good is turbo tax if I cannot download it? Anyone else having these problems, pls speak up. Have used TT in the past, very pleased but this year there are technical problems, yet to be resolved. Ugh.

i think Turbotax is mostly preparing taxes through the web or phone app now, for the free version?

well I just use trubortax and I didn't have any of these problems...one thing about turbotax...they listen...it's was so easy to use...and it walk me through and I could understand. it just made me feel so good about my tax experience...i will use turbo again..it's a great tax app...i what ever you call it....

I'm glad you liked it! Turbotax is really nice to use and I used it for years, but I'd prefer FreeTaxUSA because it costs 70% less for a very similar product.

@@max8a489 turbo was free both state and federal if you make less than maybe 68000 a year...I don't make that much...but "Smart family Money" said that she use FreeTAxUSA ans she loves it because it is 70% less than turbo tax.,...so it could be 45.00 dollars or less...

Whether you need to file state tax is up to the rules of your state so I can't answer that for you. In most cases, if you need to file federal, you will also need to file state.

Hey? TurboTax is charging me $120 to file. My only source of income is KZread Adsense revenue and they’re charging me $120 for self employed yet they said it was free. What should I do? I need to file before the deadline. Please help me ma’am

Its only free for simple returns. You are a youtuber so u can't file a simple return. U use a complex return which is why they are charging u

For OK state tax, if you bought any stock. DON'T USE IT. I completely regretted paying it early. For $50, I need to go into each stock and click "this property is not qualified for exclusion". I am not a day trader. But you know how import works. It split one transaction into many. I spent 2 hours now and still haven't finished clicking all of them. What's worse is that there is no way to know which one I clicked and which one I didn't. It is the most ridiculous piece of sh*tty software since maybe 2000. Don't mention that I can't even use a keyboard shortcut to go back to the previous page. I need to keep click the screen like crazy for 2 hours. They should pay me $50 for doing this not the other way around!

@@SmartFamilyMoney Too late. I paid and was happy why my state tax was so low. Then I realized that they assume all my stocks purchased are qualified for state tax exemption. But how often people will buy a stock of an Oklahoma company? I ended up clicking for two hours straight! Have been using TurboTax for several years. Will never use it again. It is supposed to be more expensive to save time. It is the total opposite.
