    Incredible how well balanced the car is. I was expecting more drama at the exit of the slow, wet corners, but it just puts the power down without over-steering.

    As an engineer, i can see how smart this guy is just after a few seconds of talking. But he is also very humble and yet a talented driver. Very nice piece of movie!

    As an engineer, design him some goggles or heads-up display system for increased visibility in the fog. You know, like NVG's for the dark. That would net him a few seconds up top.

    the cone air- filter that we see here on the turbo set-up was what Rod Millen said to have taken off because they found out it was 'poaching' at least a 100 HP off (especially at higher altitude) on the Toyota Tacoma...they put a thin grill instead for peebles..!!..(he actually explained to Larry..!!)..

    It's so responsive you would almost think it is a NA car and from what little info I could find for now it's a 4x4 and has an oversize turbo to boot, one would assume it has electric motors also, which would makes sense that it has little perceivable turbo lag, but I have not done any research on the specs yet to even know if it has electric motor assist or not, But it's just awesome that a privateer team literally beat the multi million dollar VW I.D.R. FOR THE RECORD TIME AT PIKES PIKE! And I'm sure at a fraction of the cost in every aspect with a freaking built Honda K20 4 cylinder! 👍

    That car is an absolute beast, both in aesthetics as in performance. Have always loved the F1/IndyCar style chassis, like the 09' Ferrari F60, which is a thing of beauty. Very talented driver as well. I love the fact that it's powered by a K20. People used to talk soooo much crap about Honda (some still do but definitely nowhere near as many), and they've proven time and again to be insanely talented and skilled engineers that have made some of the best engines on the planet. Some of the best cars too, I'm still in love with my dream car (2nd gen CRX Si) and will take it with me to the grave.

    I would love to build a K20 2nd gen CRX with just all motor NA revving to the moon at like 10,000 RPM or something close to it with like 13 to 1 compression ratio running E85... Shit you can get 200hp out of a stock 1.0 liter stock Sport bikes now running 13 to 1 compression ratio, So I would think that about 350+ hp out of a high compression built K20 should not be out of the question... Imagine how fun a 350+ HP Honda CRX would be, then maybe go crazy and make it a 4 wheel drive with a couple electric motors at the rear wheels! If you did that you could tune the K20 to like 300+ HP so that it would be a reliable daily driver and have the 2 electric motors running an easy 100+ HP each, So you could have a 500+ HP CRX and if you wanted you could dial it down or up with a controller for the electric motors from , say 300+HP with the motors off completely if you wanted to, or crank them up you could dial it up to what ever HP depending on the power of the motors you chose to use...

    Not sure if it's balls, stupidity or both that pushes these competitors to fly blindly in dense fog on a wet surface with the mountain edge feet away. God bless 'em for it. That engine noise is intoxicating. Thanks Larry.

    This thing really gives me some Super Formula vibes although the engine and all of those specs are completely different from that!!! A perfect track weapon that is meant to cut through corners real smooth like a butter!!!

    @@hexgraphica in terms of configuration which is inline 4, it is indeed not that different but in terms of the exact specs between K20 and that Super Formula's engine, it's really different especially that thing revs higher than the K-series although that they're also capable of doing that with correct mods.

    I think that Yokohama even gave them Super Formula tires for their 202 run, but IDK for sure. Wolf GB08s are pretty ridiculous already, tbf.

    Has anyone tried a progressive nitrous oxide injection system? Plugged into the ECU to respond to intake pressure? It seems to me that the friendly blue bottle might be a nice helper at an event like Pike’s. The Germans experimented with it on their Messerschmitts for that very reason. High altitude performance.

    I love Pikes Peak because its a bunch of mechanics and engineers naming themselves "The Sendy Club" using a Civic engine in a racecar chassis versus the biggest car company on earth, owning bugatti, porsche, lambo and holding parts of rimac building a dedicated EV racecar for several millions

    I woulda rathered get this in GT7 than the ID.R too. I can see how much time was lost due to having to run Wet compound/groove coming out of corners and into them for sure. This car gets 1 clean run it's prolly gonna be chompin' at the record.

    The only thing that "intrigues" me, why no bargeboard plate? Cause the nose is so wide so the the turbulent air is pushed by the clean flow in between the wheel & the nose so no/very little gets to the sidepod(raidator) intake?

    In monster trucks they use a huns device around their neck between the helmet to cut down on bobbling head an neck injuries. In dirt bike racing they have special goggles that clear off dirt. I am sure by now a racing helmet has been developed for same purpose . To help clear water from visor. As for those other things working against them in tires traction an etc I have out of the box ideas even for the fuel tank slouching effect but unfortunately it take more space in text to explain than is give space for. Thanks for the insight into this peaks car. An I hope to see more from it.

    I still say Porsche should dust off the 919 Evo to go for the Pike’s Peak record. That thing can take some more boost and an even sillier wing. Let Sebastian Loeb drive it and it’d be a done deal.

    I do wonder if the tread on those tires might've been a bit too aggressive, thinking of it in a bit of the same way as using full wets in F1 when only intermediates were needed.

    I was thinking the exact same thing. The main reason would be the added weight and the complexity/clutter of the system with more by pass valves and 2nd intercooler for the supercharger

    Wouldnt a blown diffusor be damn efficient on Pikes peak ? Its a consistant downforce and sounds godly.

    Thanks for presenting the car. Looks like the K20 ended up being a good choice for the conditions. I would've passed myself! Could use something use a engine capable of more torque in better conditions though. Even with the weight penalty. I know that isn't mountune customer base though.

    I've always wondered for this car. Bullet racing billet block, big Precision turbo, nitrous for spool and/or rocket turbo setup. 1200+ hp, throw even more downforce at it. Get into the 7's. Would give up at most 50 kg, but double power and probably an even higher downforce to weight ratio with even bigger elements for the wings and bigger diffuser

    4 seasons in less than 10 minutes...great driving at the top with the fog. Engine seems to stutter after shifting gears in certain conditions 🤔
