I remember how he flew to us in Alma-Ata! It was beautiful, he flew over the city, and many raised their heads, seeing off this roaring miracle of technology.

One of those planes found its way to Germany and is on display at the big engineering museum in Sinsheim, the only one of its kind on display *outside* of Russia, next to a retired Concorde (which I had read recently was going to be removed and sold to a foreign airline). I had managed to see both planes up close and personal; cool experience.

Actually, Russia announced in february 2019 that they will resume the production of the Tupolev Tu-144 and Tupolev Tu-244! Tupolev Tu-244 was cancelled in 1993 but now production will finally resume!

@@kubusek3154 in fact, both went out of production, if you compare, both had complications. both Tu-144 and Concorde had serious accidents. only the Tu-144 decided to take it out first, but it was the Tu-144 that first flew as the first supersonic commercial aircraft, in December 1969. to say it was the worst passenger plane ever built is an exaggeration comrade

I'm not saying this to put the Tu-144 accidents into perspective, but you ignore that it was the first to fly, the first to carry out tests, etc. French engineers, with the Concord, had plenty of time to learn from the Tu-144's faults and correct them on the Concord. Incidentally, there was only one accident due to technical problems with the Tu-144, the famous Mayan accident, at the Paris Air Show in 1973, which was probably caused by turbulence from a Mirrage that was flying close to the Tu-144, causing it to enter into stall in a few moments, lose control and fall. and that was the first one, and it wasn't because of technical problem, and there is a possibility of pilot error in the maneuver, and yes, the 1978 accident in Yegoryevsk was due to technical problems. One last question for you, if the Tu-144 was not safe, or complete crap, why did NASA, in the 90s, buy two Tu-144s to do a series of component tests that were going to the ISS? they could use the Concord, but they liked the Tu-144, and yet, it was Russian pilots who flew for NASA in these tests. Well thanks for the chat buddy.

К сожалению, строить такие самолёты невыгодно. Это поняли и за рубежом в процессе эксплуатации Конкорда. Затраты на производство и разработку колоссальные, они просто не будут окупаться. Каждый полёт такого аппарата стоит огромных денег, а пассажиров он может взять мало. Поэтому цены билетов на такой самолёт будут стоить как полёт на Луну.

@@user-rj8zd4yf2r думаю, с Валькирией имеет смысл сравнивать самолёт Сухого Т-4, как военный. Он был тоже очень дорог. А этот самолёт лучше стравнивать с иностранным гражданским аналогом, Конкордом.

People often say that the TU-144 is a direct copy of the american one, as they do look very similar. that may be true but people often forget about the T-4 Sotka which looks a lot like both designs. Not to mention Sotka was also a test bed for the first ever fly-by-wire system.

It was a waste of resources since both were not used in service or quantity. They could used the tu144 as a bomber, instead of developing the tu160. But even in this case they wasted more money, in the end, thats why urss colapsed

Согласен. Вместе с Конкордом, Фантомом Ф-4, ДС-9, Ту-104 и Ту-154М - один из самых выдержанных эстетически самолетов. ОКБ Туполева вообще творили невероятно стильные машины.

@Юрий Тойкичев Я думаю вам стоит почитать про значение слова "цивилизация". К СССР оно не имеет никакого отношения. Ну и про высокоразвитая это конечно бред. Развитие СССР было очень однобоким, в основном упор делался на науку в ущерб другим аспектам. Что в конечном итоге и привело к развалу.

GIANNIS PETRIDIS Great pity the USSR dissolved in 1991. I loved the USSR, they were a great counter-balance to the psychotic western powers that terrorized the world during the Cold War. Our USSR brothers saved North Korea and North Vietnam from certain incineration by the US. The great AK47 and RPG7 helped to liberate many countries from western colonisation and invasions. The USSR was the Guardian of Liberty and is much missed. God bless the Russian people! Aj (UK)

I highly recommend Skyships' video on this jet, both in Russian and in English. Really like that channel, he does a full history, and he takes you onboard the one still sitting in a Russian museum for a full interior tour. And he is Russian so isn't just one long bash at Soviet tech, although he is realistic about the problems they faced.

СССР моя любимая Родина.. была..есть и будет высокоразвитой цивилизацией!!! Самая Счастливая Страна Родная возродится, но в лучшем качестве..на веки вечные!!!

Кто бы что не говорил об этом периоде и "миллионах рублей выкинутых на ветер" но это было прекрасное время 60-80 года, года технического прогресса страны, а о сегодняшнем времени и говорить не о чем.

Великолепный инженерский состав ОКБ Туполева создал эту машину! Там... Не очень далеко, да и через океан, думали, что РСФСР не в состоянии создать могучую машину. Как они ошиблись! А эта машина потом стала прототипом для бомбардировщиков.

Вообще то идею украли у Французов ,об этом рассказывал один из конструкторов,что Политбюро приказало во что бы то ни стало сделать машину быстрее франзузов с их конкордом

raksan4083 I doubt it very much. Operating cists are still too high, only limited numbers of passengers can be carried due to weight implications and business people don't want to pay the massive costs of a seat just to arrive 4 hours earlier (based on a flight from UK to US). They can fly in much greater comfort for a fraction of the cost on a 747.

I love soviet aircraft and this was a mighty independent achievement. I still prefer the aesthetics and refinement of concorde, but it did cost a hell of a lot more to develop. Such a shame both aircraft are still not kings of the skies

насколько помню, 144 по двигателям гораздо больше ел топлива, а это основной критерий для крейсерской скорости.
