I'm a confirmed Tunisian addict! In my opinion, you won't find a better teacher, designer, colourist, etc. than Toni Lipsey of TL Yarn Crafts. I learned so much from just watching her work. Tension, hook diameter, types of yarn, the woman's technical advice is gold!

You did a great job for your first start and practice of Tunisian crochet, imo. Toni Lipsey is amazing. I've been watching her a lot. I'm new to Tunisian as well and have just gotten some hook sets. What you did here looked correct to me per Toni's beginner video and how it looks as you go. 😊

The way you were doing it is correct. you are doing great. It just takes time to get used to Tunisian crocheting. If It says FWD pass it is referring to putting all loops on the hook. Return pass means that you are taking the loops off the hook. always keep in mind to make sure you go through the last bar of the row when putting all the loops on, otherwise it will make edges not straight. There is a book that you can get that will explain to you the different Tunisian crochet stitches. also I found when I googled Tunisian Crochet terms and abbreviations , I clicked on Tunisian Crochet Terms and Abbreviations| Stitch in progress. It will list the abbreviations and I believe show you short videos on how to do them. I hope you find this helpful. Take care and be safe. hugs to Miss Rou

These look good for beginners in tunisian crochet. After you get some experience, you may want to consider an interchangeable set like Lykke interchangeable hooks (driftwood) or ChiaoGoo interchangeable hooks (bamboo). Toni is a super teacher. I think once you get used to doing tunisian crochet you will really like it.

I had to make two comments otherwise one would be too long. I just wanted to add that I think you did an amazing job of your beginning to learn tunisian. What you did looked to me like I remember it is meant to be done. I tried tunisian about 3 years ago and loved it, albeit just repeating rows over and over like you did, but wider and longer. When I learn how to stop it curling I will try again. I feel encouraged by you to try again, so thankyou.

You're doing a great job and you are absolutely doing it correctly! I would suggest using the size 6 mm hook next time to loosen the stitches; Tunisian makes a dense, thick fabric, so going up a few hook sizes helps. Also, picking up the stitches (going through the "vertical bars") is called a forward pass, and taking them of is called the reverse pass; a forward and reverse makes one row. Any basic Tunisian book or pamphlet will go over the basics, including the terminology. Good luck and Happy Hooking!!

I have started Tunisian crochet in the last several months. I find the long hooks very fiddley and I prefer using the ones with the long cords. I bought some from Amazon that are bamboo and had good reviews and I love them! My biggest tip would be to go up AT LEAST 2 hooks sizes from what the yarn suggests. I crochet very tight so I usually go up 2 1/2 sizes or I use much finer yarn. Good luck and keep it up!!

I was too impatient and went for the second cheapest set (around $11) from Amazon, because the cheapest one in the picture has a ridge. I also bought a 10 mm hook to replace the one my son took. Either the set or the hook will arrive this week... I am actually using my cheap aluminium hooks for normal crochet: because they are 15 cm long and equal width all the way, they are actually perfectly fine for learning the stitches, so I didn't really have to get the hooks straight away.

Very cool! I have a way more "inexpensive" set coming from Wish (whenever it gets here) so I can try to learn.

@@Yarnasasecondlanguage Wish is fun - just know you get what you pay for. Hubby and I each like to do "cheap retail therapy" through them. The regular hooks I use now came from Wish. Hella cheap and perfectly serviceable.

I'm going to try learning with the Tunisian hooks with cables. The afghan hook would drive me nuts.

I am a total newb with tunisian crochet and only wanna buy one hook in 6.5 to make a coat with tunisian pattern :) so been hesitant what to buy. Longer hooks might feel weird like you say so considering buying one of those shorter ones with an interchangeable cable. PS Your dog has the cutest lil face ahah

Yeah, it was an adjustment for me using a Tunisian crochet hook. Thankful, I was able to adjust fairly quickly.

What I don't like about those hook's, is there's no thumb rest to keep you straight. And they aren't pointy enough for me.

It was definitely a new way of crocheting for me and it took me some time to become comfortable with it. Once I figured out what was comfortable for me, it became more easier.
