Tuning Bar & Lines (checking kite lines are equal length)

Спорт

This tutorial will show you how to check, and correct, your line lengths. If your kite tends to fly to one side, or backstalls easily, you may have unequal lines.
Most kites are now designed to have equal line lengths with the bar in and trim extended. If you have an older bar, it might be designed with different lengths for the center and steering lines, in which case you will find a large difference when comparing lines. Make sure to check that your bar is designed to have equal line lengths.

    Always line up the line ends , the sheaths can be different lengths so always match the ends for functionally correct lengths. Sheaths are often 5mm different

    Brilliant tutorial! 👍🏼😎 I like your technique for stretching the line by connecting to the harness hook, and not pull on the bar directly ( as some suppliers propose). Only practical issue for me where I don’t have a good solution for is to remove the puigtails from the lines before connecting them to a central point. The nodes between the lines and pigtails are mostly very tight are and virtually impossible to open.

    Did you find a solution? If you can't remove the pigtails, maybe you need to attach some loops and knots to your anchor.

    awesome videos. I'd love one where you explain how to tune the bridles and pigtails. For instance if you have set up your bar lines correctly but how do you need to setup the bridles/pigtails so that the kite flies properly. I'd love that :)

    Thanks Michael. I do have a video about depower, trim straps and the connection points for your lines. That should cover some of what you ask. It doesn't cover the various bridle adjustments - as I'd usually leave these as standard generally. Maybe I'll have time to make a video or article about that some time. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqehu9Ntj9Tapbg.html There's also a video about stalling caused by using too much angle of attack: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fH9125uSqZzZkaw.html All the best, Alex

    Thank you this was very helpful. I managed to install my new lines and tune a Kite. I had to fly it in lite wind to gauge its flight. I was wondering if you can tune a kite before flying it, for instance you can make you lines the same lengths to start with but then for pigtails adjustment it seems like you have to fly and test.

    Great tutorial! I use a core 2s pro bar and lines too and my wife has the 2s bar. I played around with both of them and have a really puzzling question: When I adjust the clam cleat further down toward bar (so wifes short arms can reach the bar) will I still need to adjust the back lines accordingly? I dont believe I need to due to the setup of this particular bar and how the lines go through a 'Y' shape. I'm unsure if its safe to do this as the ability of depower will be reduced. Any advice on this would be much appreciated!

    What if we are at the maximum length possible on the steering lines? Is there a way to reduce the length of the front lines?

  • @kitesurfcollege

    That should never be the case. However, it is easier to add an extension to the steering lines than shorten the center lines. Shortening would require unstitching the pigtails, moving the sheath, and re-stitching.

    @@kitesurfcollege ok thank you. I was thinking the same not finding any way to make it proper. Over time, for some reason my front lines keep extending and I need to undo nodes on the steering line to compensate every 10 to 15 sessions roughly. Is it normal?

  • @kitesurfcollege

    @kitesurfcollege

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@BenoitThailand Yes, that's normal with older equipment. Keep stretching your steering lines to match the center lines. That's the best option. If that doesn't work then extend the steering lines. At that point, however, it's not long until one of your lines will break.

    Good tutorial as always but methinks, as I've been taught lately, the center lines shouldn't be under tension, they have to be a bit loose, hanging freely so if one line is longer than the other it will hang lower, which will be harder to notice if they are pulled hard and under tension...keep up the great work!
