That gen of tundra had frame rot issues and clear coat issues. Solid powertrain though. My dad had one(2001 4.7) and in 225k it only ever had a fuel injector, MAF sensor and the fuel pump replaced. Normal maintenance stuff too. brakes, front end, power steering hoses leaked, plugs, serp belt and such. Had the clearcoat peel all up the hood and on the roof and bed sides. It was well maintained with a carwash once a week and full detail. Garaged for 15 of the 20 years he owned it. Interior held up great. He bought a newer one and convinced me(a die hard GM fan) to buy a toyota(2019 tacoma). My last 2 GM trucks cost me a lot of money and proved to be money pits. Happy with the tacoma so far! Especially now that ive moved from Idaho to the Oregon coast. A lot more maneuverable for tight spaces over here.

  • @robsnizzle7

Frame rot was mainly an issue on the 1st couple of years, Yota made changes in frame distributors after the 1st couple of years. But also depends on geographical location of course (salting of the roads).

I love my 06 DC V8 (I'm a fellow Oregonian/PNW native myself). Best truck Toyota ever built IMO. It's the perfect cross between the modern Tacomas size and a 1/4 Ton Domestic pickups power and load capacity. Only thing I hate is that there's hardly any suspension options for them. OME (which I run on my other 2 Toyotas and ran on all the Cruisers I ran in Australia) doesn't make leaf's for it and it's got nothing like the support that Tacos get despite being more desirable trucks IMO.

up here where I live in Alberta my pop bought my 02 tundra brand new and he lived in Fort mac and then down in Edmonton but stil lworked at syncrude and anyways he got alot of salt on it and those fender flares that he has on that truck helped grow massive rust on the rear fenders so now their very rusty and I can't afford new fenders to chop and weld in new wheel wells now :(

my 02 tundra has over 300,000 miles too lol. just got mine, working out some problems with it, but hopefully it'll be an amazing truck! Currently trying to work out the exhaust trying to upgrade it. I took my muffler off and it sounds amazing. But.. I feel it's too loud. My biggest thing about exhaust is I want it to sound nice, but not be to loud. If anyone have an suggestions please let me know!

My 06 frame ate itself away. Sad because it only had 143k on the engine and transmission. I loved the size of it. Full replacement for the frame and all the other parts affected was just too cost prohibitive. Still not sure what to do with the truck as it sits in a storage lot
