Yo era parte de la estudiantina cuando se formó en 1967. Los recuerdos son muy agradables aún cuando la nostalgia se viene de golpe. Vamos Tuna!!

Salvador Puente Que gusto, yo ingresé en 1980 cuando estudiaba el primer semestre de la carrera. Ahora hemos formado un grupo de Decanos de la Tuna con integrantes de todas las generaciones que por edad ya no estaban activos, entre ellos tal vez recuerdes a César Ortega y a Gustavo Lassard. es un gran gustto ver a mis compañeros ede la tuna , he tenido en mi vida el mayor recuerdo el haber sido integrante en los años 1973,74y 75, cuando Cesar era el tuno mayor y sobre todo nuestras presentaciones sabatinas en el , meson del CID

amo las tunas egresado de FCA UNAM a mucho orgullo 40 años de edad y me acabo de hechar un vinito a su salud con mi esposa que es contadora y yo admistrador larga vida a estas tradiciones cenka tlazokamati. Viva Mexico y la vida universitaria por siempre.

PLAYING FOR CHANGE IN THE STREETS Salvador Puente de la Torre. Written on April 5, 2020 for Valerie Vogel (under the claustrophobic Corona Virus Stay at Home) In 1968 I was a member of a large musical group called Estudiantina or Tuna for short. We were 20 to 22 members with guitars and mandolins playing traditional tunes for that kind of group. (De colores) At one point we received an invitation to play in Houston, Texas. We chartered a bus and traveled all the way there in many hours. We entered the US in Laredo, went to San Antonio and then to Houston. The person who invited us didn’t show up, so we ended up playing our music in the street for change, literally playing for change, not part of the project Playing for Change that is now so relevant. Because we were such a large group dressed in strange clothes, including a cape with ribbons, pants like Zorro’s, and a yellow bow tie, people started to gather around us and after a while, a TV crew stopped to tape the excitement. Our director explained that the reason why we were asking for help was that we had been stood up. The segment was broadcast in the local evening news. Al of a sudden from the blue, from the sky maybe, a lady came to rescue us. Her name is Ruth. She paid for a hotel for all of us, two per room; she paid for our meals and the next day she took us all to an Astros’ baseball game at the Astro Dome, which was a marvel of the world at that time. It was the first stadium to have air conditioning. We were told that people were afraid that the dome was going to blow away because of the pressure of the AC. When we got to the stadium she was at the door of the bus with a wad of cash in her hand and gave each of us a brand new 5 dollar bill for a coke or some snack. They said that I re-entered the bus through a back window to get a double bonus, but it was only a rumor, I would never have done that to such an incredibly generous and beautiful lady. That’s when I decided to marry an American woman, it took me a while but I did it. We played our music at her house, she invited friends to listen. Somebody said that some of the friends were actors in soap operas. I couldn’t confirm that because I didn’t watch soap operas (in English). So this is my story. Thank you Valerie for giving me the idea of telling you more about this adventure. While writing this note I found a copy of a CD we recorded afterwards. I am including the link.
