Tumour immunology and immunotherapy
Ғылым және технология
This animation created by Nature Reviews Cancer and Nature Reviews Immunology illustrates how tumour cells are sensed and destroyed by cells of the immune system and how tumours can evolve to evade immune-mediated elimination. Scientists are developing new immunotherapies that help the immune system to ‘fight back’ - the animation explains how these exciting new drugs work.

I'm still a bio undergrad but some of the best literature I've ever read were from literature reviews in Nature. They're long af but extremely easy to understand a lot of the time, even for people without a lot of prior knowledge about these things

If all medical books were replaced by animations like these, medical studies would be less boring, more easy to understand and remember and more attractive.

Remember, medical doctors aren't scientists. Research on cancer and possible treatments are done by biochemists, oncologists...human biology/biochemistry is really hard. Harder than any other disciplines.

The problem is that the animations are limited; Many times what is written in medical books, comes from the direct experience of those who have seen the complexities of tissues. In half paragraph describe more than this animation in 5 minutes, can not do.
I’m a doctoral student in Molecular Biology, and these animations are beautiful! I’ll be sure to use these with my classes!
Awesome video, I really wish there were more animated videos like this one, that they were longer and more in-depth.

Thank you so much Nature video. Greetings from Molecular Biology, enviromental and Cancer Research Group (BIMAC) and Bioengineering graduate studies at Universidad del Cauca, Colombia.

No one ever talks about induced Innate Immunity and the interactions of Dendritic Cells, NK Cells, and Macrocytes. We all catch 1 million cancers every day but the cell receptors of these detect them and destroy the malignant cell. So eat your fruits and vegetables, exercise, maintain a slim weight, and avoid excessive alcohol! BTW, I love to create this type animation as a hobby and this one is especially beautiful. And Parham The Immune System is a wonderful book. When I went to med school I was taught things like "somehow muscles contract" and "somehow infections are controlled" but now it seems every step in every signaling pathway has been figured out. It is incredible (and so exciting) how much is now known about the immune system and all the new practical applications of that knowledge!
I really liked this video. PLEASE make one describing oncolytic immunotherapies such as T-VEC!
Nk cell is my spirit animal
Thanks for your clear explanations, Many thanks

CD8 T cell's mediated cytotoxicity scene was amazing
Many thanks for this very informative video
Thank you
Remember, NK cells and their ability to sense stress-associated molecules came about by chance, as did helper T cells, dendritic cells, cytotoxic T cells, coreceptors, perforin and granzymes. Their obvious design wasn't designed. Never mind the effectively infinite permutations of a string of amino acids that had to be searched to find functional proteins.

After the third chemotherapy session, he stopped eating due to severe mouth ulcers and was hospitalized again. Though stable initially, his condition worsened, leading to organ failure. Despite being on life support, he passed away the following day. I share this to urge others in similar situations to be extremely vigilant.
nice video but some of the information provided are missleading/wrong IL-2 and IFN-a are not efficient therapeutic targets because: 1) IL-2 will also promote the expansion of Tregs leading to immunosuppresion and cancer progression 2) IFN-a could promote lupus-like syptoms
thank you for this video
This is so moving ❤️
Great video about inmune response
I really loved the video; and in addition, some other mechanisms of immune evasion by tomours would be the loose of the MHC 1 expression so that cell can not be detected by the lymphocyte T, but that can be helpulf for the cells NK to detected tose cells without MHC1. I'm surprised of how tomours can do the same mechanism as the Immune-privileged tissues, so they can decreased or stop the inmune response. And the inmunotherapy is like a way to potencial the functions of the T cells, so they can continue their work.
Thank you for this awesome vedio ..it's very informative and easy to graspe

Each individual's body reaction to medicine and therapy are different. a patient has to try and find the right medicine or combination for the body.

it's not your body per se. It's which genes you happen to possess and how those genes are expressed. More DNA screening and more specifically single cell RNA seq. should be used to compare treatment options before anyone spends their life savings on it.

it may be that using tatooing to administer site specific medicine in the case of skin related issues such as melanoma will be found to reduce the effect of such medication on other parts of the body. another possible treatment for melanoma may be cauterization, which has been used by Arab communities to this day for other issues with some similarity to acupuncture. very little research is available on Arab medicine at this time.

I think there is a mislabeled point in video at 3:50. It should be labeled in regulatory T cell not Helper T cell.

cd 47 therapy combined with the available immunotherapy can help more and more people with cancer.
