Tulipa hoogiana, a stunning red species tulip for the garden-and sorry for posting the video so late

Video throwback to the 13th of May when my fabulous Tulipa hoogiana was in bloom!!! Tulipa hoogiana is one of my absolute favourite tulips, thanks to its stunning red colour!!! I bought this tulip from rareplants.co.uk; the vendor's website explains that their stock derives from the original stock collected in 1910 by Dr. Boris Fedtschenko in the Kopet in Turkmenistan, and then introduced in the Netherlands, indeed the species was named for the brothers T.H. Hoog and J.M.C Hoog, then of the van Tubergen company.
Tulips are some of the hardiest plants in temperate and cold climates and are hardy in USDA zones 3 to 8, therefore most of the cold and temperate countries including the throughout the entire United Kingdom, where I live. The bulbs need to be planted in autumn in full sun (or at least partial shade) and well drained soil, between 10 and 15 cm deep and 10-15 cm apart (a bit more packed if planted in a pot, in which case ensure to put adequate dose of fertilizers to nourish the plants), and will bloom in early to mid-spring. After blooming, it is important to not cut the leaves off but let them die down, it might be unsightly but it is very important to keep them as they are photosynthesizing in order to provide energy to store in the bulb for the blooming of the following year. In late spring / early summer the leaves will die down and the bulbs go dormant, and you can then keep them in the ground, or lift them and divide them, if you wish. When they are dormant, tulip bulbs should not be watered, and if they are in the ground near other plants that need watering in summer, the fact that you planted them in well drained soil will ensure that no water will stagnate near the bulb causing rotting.

Thanks! My nasturtiums are flowering. I bought many varieties and planted them all over my gardens and I am really excited to see what the cross pollinated seeds will grow into!
