Does it smell of poo? We have seen so many reviews mention the sewage smell

Yes, correct. We noticed it two or three times. It's Greece, so we didn't expect much, but we rented a car for almost the entire stay and traveled around the island. Despite this, the rest of the staff, accommodation, nightly animations for adults and food were great.
