I love Tudor, and I think they are just getting better and better. Ok, so some people may not like this particular watch. And yes the difference in black bay models is pretty significant, especially when it comes to dimensions. And there was nothing wrong with the ETA movement. Completely bomb proof. But you cannot ignore the fact that this is a completely in house calibre, which is what every watch manufacturer worth their salt should strive for. And for the most part. Tudor seem to be restraining the prices for their watches. And at this price point, it is a very worthy alternative to the submariner. I would like to see a couple more developments in the In house range though. Such as a GMT and Chronograph movement etc.

The 2824 ETA put me off Tudor, and I bought the Black Bay Bronze two weeks ago. God it's a beautiful, big watch. I didn't like the "snowflake," but they are historic, and comparing the dial to my SeaDweller they are quite similar except the Tudor uses numerals at three, six, and nine but only on the Bronze Black Bay. As for the fat case, it works. I have an Omega SeaMaster and it is busy in side profile with the mid-case, bottom and a series of rings at the top with the bezel. The Black Bay just has that fat case and the bezel/crystal same 14mm dimension as the Omega.

That thicker case and fake rivet bracelet is a deal breaker for me. I'd Rather spend a bit more and get a nice used 14060. The 14060 will do better on resale also. I'd even take a nice used 79090 over the balck bay.

phototristan I have spoken to my watch repairer and he has never mentioned difficulty in getting eta parts. and I have never seen complaints of eta service going up as a result. restrictions apply to non swatch group companies using ETA movements in the future. supply of ETA parts out there are plentiful for those few that bother to get their ETA movements serviced. if ever there is a shortfall. you are living in a fantasy if you think a eta service will one day quadruple in price to a rolextudor service or even worse there is a finite supply of eta for your omega Tudor etc etc..not going to happen my friend

It's not just a tad thicker. The older, ETA model is 12.7mm. The new one is 14.8mm and that is a significant difference. Unless you have larger-than-average wrists (which I do not), the new one is far too clunky. I'll keep my ETA model.

Nice watch, but not really an in-house movement. Kenissi, a joint venture between Tudor and Chanel, makes movements for Tudor and several other brands. Tudor itself doesn’t actually manufacture any other parts of the watch, either. Rather, they assemble their watches using parts from third party suppliers in Switzerland.

  • @trevbarlow9719

Sorry to be a Negative Nelly, but I must deduct points for not knowing how thick the watch is. Saying "I believe it's a tad thicker than the non-in-house" is just not professional enough for aBlongtoWatch. Especially when the thickness of this one is one of the common concerns about the watch.

Thanks for the review. Love the look of this watch so for all you poor people like me who wish they could have it get the Chinese Corgeut version sold on ebay for $150 shipped and don't let any cork sniffers tell you it is immoral or a piece of junk. I did research on the Miyota 8215 in it and was sold when a long time member on big watchuseek forum said the 8215 is a tested work horse movt. got the watch in 2 weeks from china, WITH the ROSE crown, and put a NATO strap on it. there are people who can afford the expensive, not necessarily better stuff, and people who can't. and by the way sorry but the chinese make both crap, and really good quality stuff.....they have over 5000 years experience compared to us westerners.

Ogotuwa Obuto Nope no inferiority what so ever..don't think anyone here thinks the ETA is better ...But there is no denying it as an easily serviceable work horse movement that gets the job done..Personally if I don't have a display case back to even view the movement who cares..If I'm running plus 3 to 5 sec a day on a top tier ETA then what's to complain about? Not much.

That's because you are comparing them to Rolex. Start thinking Tudor as a standalone company and respect the timepieces they produce for the magnificent works of art that they are. Tudor is Rolex's way of introducing more compelling and experimental designs that Rolex's reputation will not let it exploit. Both Rolex and Tudor are fantastic watches, I have a sub 116610 and the new Tudor bbb. Just my opinion :)

243wayne1 I'm basing my claim on a great article that breaks down the Tudor movement and compares it to Rolex's 3135. The Tudor has a longer power reserve, uses a silicon hairspring (found in some of Rolex's ladies watches, but not their 3135), and uses a ball bearing for the rotor (found in Rolex's brand new 3255). So yes, Tudor's new movement (in all iterations) surpasses some of the technical features found in Rolex's 3135 workhorse.

William Candrick Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying Tudor isn't a fine timepiece. But a silicone covered hairspring does not a blue parachrom hairspring make. It is a dime store watch compared to a Rolex.
